Against Olympics, Caprica Steady With 18-49, But Older Viewers Drop Off

Caprica dipped under a million average viewers on Friday night against the Olympics (after taking the week off against the opening ceremonies in Vancouver on 2/12), averaging .976 million.  But while total viewers dropped, the 18-49 rating has been flat, at least when rounded to one decimal place.  But rounded to one decimal, the four weeks Caprica have aired, including the two hour premiere had 0.4, 0.5, 0.4 and 0.4 as far as adults 18-49 ratings.

They need to pull this and see if it can do better in the summer, They will not renew it with such bad ratings (well unless it is the 2nd coming of Archer)

Air it after W13 or Eureka in the summer, try something because the current plan is not working

^^ I have to agree Joe. If you air this after new episodes of Warehouse 13 this summer, I’m sure the numbers will improve. It’s dying a slow and painful death in it’s current timeslot.

I don’t think airing it in the summer is going to help that 18-49 rating. The Eurkea and W13 audience isn’t going to go for Caprica, it’s a very acquired taste. Maybe they should do the ‘most depressing night of television’ and air Caprica with SGU? LOL Maybe they could pull each others numbers up? I don’t know, this doesn’t look good. I still think it might help Caprica if they could run it alongside BSG, lord knows Syfy’s original scripted dramas probably don’t do that much better than their re runs.

And PS, but look at the picture attached with this article; that does not scream 18-49 demo. It ‘looks’ boring. The latest ads I’ve seen for Caprica and SGU make the shows look completely different than what they are; SGU looks all happy and colorful and Caprica looks like non stop action and I don’t think that kind of ‘spin advertising’ is going to help them either. I kind of like the show but if there is any kind of big bang action packed payoff coming at the end of the season than for goodness sake start advertising it NOW. Don’t worry about ruining the ‘surprise’, you’re fighting for your life here. And if there isn’t any kind of big bang surprise, like the first Cylon War or space ships coming than I think the show is pretty much doomed.

I have to agree with Cimmer. Even those who enjoy Caprica admit the show is kind of a downer. Given the quirky, light hearted nature of W13 (and Eureka) it seems unlikely that W13 viewers would take to Caprica.

Maybe pairing it with SGU would produce some results (SGU’s numbers aren’t great but they’re better than Caprica and the genre is the same)

Caprica was replayed all day today and I was not really watching but the TV sound was in hearing distance and it finally shank in just how much of a downer the music is on this show. It is just terribly dreary the way the music is played in the back ground. No wonder it seems so sad it is the music. I posted earlier today that Syfy is in an identify crisis and the idea they play such bad music says it all. the network does not know who they want for an audience.

I wonder what the youngest age demographic is showing for this show? Are their teenage girls watching because so of the main characters are really young and they could be attracting a following. I actually like the viewpoint of these young characters, but then I enjoyed Twilight and Vampire Diaries and enjoyed Roswell when it replayed at 4:00 PM on Scifi a few years ago.

Yes if you put caprica and Stargate Universe together everyone would need a antidepressant after two dark sad hours of the two Soap Operas playing back to back.

What is so depressing about Caprica?

Just a quick question, I have never seen BSG and have now been thinking about turning on Caprica.Would have have to watch the original in order to understand the prequel ? It looks like an interesting show and just trying to see if I would be into it. any help ?

  9. This past episode wasn’t too bad. I got a chuckle out of the homage to the original Battlestar Galactica when they played the theme as one of the selections in Greystone’s stereo.

The MUSIC is like something out of a horror film. I never noticed it until today hearing it is another room and it is just dreary.

  11. john connor

I like caprica, but it is moving way too slowly with the cylon zoe story.
the rest of the show is boring, ron moore is boring, and the same guy who did bsg music is doing caprica music the way ron moore likes it?
the best thing about this show was alessandra as zoe , and they killed her in the pilot she is still around but not the same as a real person.
I hope we get to see all of S- , I was just checking on the ratings, and I guess they are not good.

    Empire:
It’s not mandatory to watch BSG 1st, but you will miss or not understand the little tid bits that sort of reference what eventually happens in BSG.

If your going to try it, the Pilot (both parts) is still up on Hulu until the end of the week.

  13. Tom

@Empire – I would go so far as to say Caprica would be more enjoyable if you hadn’t seen BSG (in that many feel Caprica has misrepresented characters that were seen or mentioned in BSG)

no you dont need to see bsg, this show is not about bsg, just the planets in bsg and events before bsg started, so if anything after watching this you might want to see bsg, as this is the begining.

you do need to see the 2 hour pilot which is available online and pilot was pretty good, after that it just slows down in storytelling.
this is a serialized show that is doing standalone eps? LOL

I really liked this week’s episode, I loved the Graystone’s storyline with the guy from that host show, made me remind a little bit about the season 3 finale of BSG with the trial and all the stuff and arguments they were saying.

  16. rich

anyone seen numbers for HBO’s shows, The Ricky Gervais Show and The Life and Times of Tim?

    Thanks!

This show is dead. .4 demo is terrible for an expensive scripted drama like caprica. Even BSG-level dvd sales of 300k won’t save this show. Sorry, RDM. I usually don’t like to indulge in Schaudenfraude but the giant middle finger you gave to BSG fans with the last 2 seasons of that show weren’t going to translate to great ratings for Caprica.

  18. Joe Jackson

    I liked seasons 3 & 4 better than 1 & 2 of BSG

  19. Marc

If this show gets renewed it will be an insult to Stargate. Which never ever saw episodes getting this low. Reruns of SG-1 and SGA have done better than this.

“If this show gets renewed it will be an insult to Stargate. Which never ever saw episodes getting this low. Reruns of SG-1 and SGA have done better than this.”

Why would it be an insult to Stargate? Stargate SG-1 was on for freaking ever (around 10 seasons?) and Atlantis lasted for, like, 5 seasons. Syfy/SciFi gave those shows pretty long runs (especially SG-1), so I don’t see how renewing Caprica would “insult” the Stargate shows.
