James Hibberd reports NBC has renewed The Sing Off. The Wrap's Josef Adalian has quotes from NBC EVP of alternate programming Paul Telegdy:

"We'll be bringing 'Sing Off' back," Telegdy said. "We don't know when. But we believe we've found a little gem, one we can buff up and make better."

"Sing-Off" scored steady, solid ratings during its mid-December run, averaging around a 2.5 in the adults 18-49 most nights. NBC aired eight hours of competition over four nights, a cost-effective way of determining audience interest in the concept.

Cool. I loved it this year, hopefully they’ll be able to find more talent next year.

  5. Did it really get a 2.5? NBC would be crazy not to bring it back.

From what I remember critics were fairly nice about the show as well, which was probably unexpected. Of course with Glee continuing to explode and set to get bigger with an Idol lead-in giving Sing-Off a second chance with hopefully a stronger line-up around it seems like a good idea.

If it comes back with Ben Folds as a judge again, I’m in! He was the breakout star of the show.

  13. NBC needs to be thanking Glee. They saw the success of Glee and used it to push their reality competition.

I enjoyed the singing and Ben Folds had some good insights, but the other two judges were worthless and I FF’d past their comments and the rest of the fluff. It’s a great DVR show that can be watched in less than half the time it takes to air.

Nice to finally see some serious attention being given to music from the most amazing instrument ever created…the human voice. Kudos to
those responsible for the concept, and the forging ahead to a second
    season.
