According to the preliminary metered market data, the gold medal game that aired yesterday afternoon scored a 17.6 household, that means it was on in more than 20 million homes. Given that more than one person per household watches it could eclipse 25 million viewers if the preliminary household ratings hold up.
The 17.6 rating is 44 percent higher than the Torino games in 2006. And if it comes in around 25 million viewers that would be nearly 50% better than the 17.1 million who watched USA vs. Canada play in the Salt Lake City men's gold medal hockey game in 2002.
The preliminary share was a 33 meaning that on average one out of every three homes watching TV was watching the hockey game.
