Biathlon is very popular in Europe, specially in France since France won 6 medals in Biathlon (for a total of 11 medals !).

Moreover, in Europe, biathlon always aired live in prime time between 8pm and 11pm (when it’s morning in Vancouver, it’s evening in Europe).

It should be pointed out that Eurosport was only the secondary broadcaster for the Olympics in most, or maybe even all, countries. The EBU, the association of public broadcasters, had bought the rights for its members and sub-licensed a number of events to Eurosport.

In Germany, biathlon averaged an 11.0 rating in primetime, ahead of luge/bobsled events (8.8) and downhill skiing (8.1).
