CBS – Good WIfe
NBC – Parenthood

No way this can happen. White Collar will be already over by the time V is back on the air.

For those of you mentioning White Collar on USA, the season finale is next week and on March 30th Law & Order: Criminal Intent takes it place.

Just a note...

Consider this, Frank... The Good Wife, The Middle, and Modern Family are all shows this season that have managed to tie or beat the 18-49 rating of their pilots later on in the season. They all did so without their pilots being notably boosted by the Olympics. You're telling me that Parenthood is going to get back to that 3.1 rating? Unlikely. It will probably go the route of Community, that is, a healthy pilot followed by a nosedive.

Frank do I need a reason. I actually liked Gilmore Girls but more the supporting cast but I adore Alexis Bledel. Lauren was ok she just doesn't appeal to me. I admit she's an engaging presence on screen. Sandra Bullock is also engaging on screen and I'm not a fan of hers either. I just like actors with a bit more to them. Maura Tierney? She could do drama and comedy and could have done dramedy very easily. I love her.

Frank I promise to come here and eat my words if I end up liking Parenthood.I'll probably end up DVR'ing it because The Good Wife is my new fave show but I'm definitely going to give it a go. I am not a big Lauren Graham fan(she is kind of engaging on screen) but I'm hoping the rest of the cast can pull me in. Jason Katims is a talented guy.

From Mike Ausiello
Question: How awesome was Lauren Graham in the Parenthood premiere? Any scoop on upcoming episodes? —Barb
Ausiello: Actually, next week’s episode is an even better showcase for LG. Sarah goes on a job interview and her prospective boss is about half her age. The scene calls for LG to be alternately comical, vulnerable, intimidated, and hopeful, and she nails all four. The episode — which scores bonus points for including both Felicity’s Amanda Foreman and Everwood’s Tom Amandes in memorable guest roles — also features a very funny scene that’s reminiscent of this.

Some saw episode 2 and the original pilot of which they said that the 2nd pilot featuring Lauren Graham was a lot lighter in tone than the original pilot, which was a lot darker. Jason Katims decided to make the pilot much funnier and lighter in tone than it originally was. Several scenes were filmed for the original pilot before the decision was made to make the show a dramedy. Hence, that is why it feels a little disjointed.

I just want to say Frank I am going to give the show a couple of more episodes. I really want to like the show and with FNL going away soon, I'd really love to find something comparable.

Frank I just want to know what shows the critics saw that had them raving about this show. It certainly could not have been the pilot. And Brothers and Sisters was a show that started out promisng which quickly turned into an unfocused abyss.

I guess my whole problem with the show is it does from dark drama to dramedy simply because they ended up recasting one actor? Who's to say the rest will mesh. I would have preferred they recast Maura Tierney with someone who could replace her and stay with the show as planned(Juliane Moore who's been looking for a TV project comes to mind) or the concept should have been based on the original film to begin with. The only reason I highlighted Nelson and Graham for the show is that they are really the only 2 who fit. Maybe Krause too but the rest including Bedelia, out of place.

Frank I never said the writing was awful, just not as dark as we were told. I will give it more episodes, I just donot want another B&S or Modern Family.

Gavin, Gravatar and Bgun, haven't you ever heard of giving the show 2-3 episodes before saying the writing is awful. Sometimes pilots are reshot, reedited and it gives them a disjointed feel.

With all the Scifi stuff it's hard to imagine ABC catering to women but I supposed the rest of their lineup reinforces that theory.

And aside from LOST, ABC's programming is crappy. DH, Greys are both old and PP and B&S totally dependent on their leads.

Fox has the most original scripted stuff and best IMO. 24 is getting a bit long in the tooth but the rest is still fresh.

Another dissapointed viewer here. Parenthood feels phony to me. The best thing in the show is Lauren Graham. I watched the first ep because of Peter Krause. Well, it's a new low to him after the brilliant Six Feet Under, Dirty Sexy Money and now this garbage?

BTW ABC has the best scripted series (that's why they have the most upscale audience) but BAD/cheesy reality shows. To me FOX shows are the cheesiest among the big 4 but since they are aimed at younger audiences it works.

GeorgeOscarBluth says:
CBS – Good WIfe
NBC – Parenthood
ABC – V
USA – White Collar
FX – Justified (yet to premiere)

Your right about the competition for this time slot..
White Collar fan slightly more so than The Good Wife..
I checked out Parenthood to see all the hoopla..
Also because Thomas Schlamme directed the pilot episode..
The West Wing Alum but this show's writing is beyond saving..
I felt like I was watching a soap opera donut with movie of the week jammed in the middle..
It's also know as a Glazed not again NBC filled...

Justified looks great..

We were told Parenthood would be darker than the movie, but this was all very fluffy, it could have aired on ABC Family. I wont watch again, I already watch Modern Family and Brothers & Sisters. I wanted a new dark family drama.

Parenthood had an excellent start. An great cast and excellent portrayal of the difficulties of being a parent. Max's character captures the positives and triumphs that are associated with Autism. This allows others to relate! Great show so far!!
