With 3.48 million viewers, last night's "White Collar" bested the season two premiere of "Southland" by 40 percent in viewers, and its 1.455 million adults 18-49 (a 1.1 rating) were 13% better than "Southland." "White Collar's" 1.577 million adults 25-54 was 10 percent better than "Southland."
Still up against new episodes of "Southland" and "The Good Wife," as well as the premiere of "Parenthood" on the NBC mother ship, "White Collar" was down a tick from last week's 1.2 adults 18-49 rating and 3.57 million viewers.
It will be interesting to see how it goes next week, when "White Collar's" has its season one finale.

Not to great for Southland!

Yeah, I definitely had to DVR the 1am re-broadcast because of Parenthood premiere and Good Wife. I’m sure others had to as well. I do think that with the re-broadcast, the numbers will be what they were pre-Olympics, but I’m still not thrilled with this new USA scheduling. I might be more okay with it if one of the shows I watched had remained on Fridays at 10pm.
As for Southland, just another thing for TNT to be concerned with. Southland had around 10 million on the premiere of the series I think and around 6-7 million by the time of the season 1 finale, they should have conceivably been higher than what White Collar posted last night, at least in terms of viewers.

Mindless Fluff vs Well written Grit…Fluff wins again. What a shame

You could also read it like that:
USA hit-series White Collar only 13% better than Southland.
Seriously…the demo for Southland isn’t that bad and the reviews are as good as “Men of a certain Age”‘s.

If it can hold those demos it will get renewed. You heard it here first!

I think that maybe TNT put Southland on the wrong night. It is a great show that I think has a lot of potential still. If it survives, then they need to switch it to a different night.
As for White Collar, I enjoy the show, but I am not liking a particular recurring character at the moment. Time will tell if they decide to keep her or not.

Agree with GOB. What a shame that the American viewing audience would rather watch a boring, mindless show then a cutting edge , fresh take on a police drama.

Good for White Collar!

What night would you put it on? I think Tuesday was chosen because of Leverage as a lead-in, wasn’t it?
Men of a Certain Age is loved by TNT, the exec wasn’t nearly as positive talking about Southland.

Have the White Collar haters even watched the show? It’s pretty good. Sure, it’s slicker and funnier than the grittier Southland, but that’s what makes it great. WC is in the vein of Bones, Castle, and Psych which have been more successful than SL.

White Collar is a well written, well acted, entertaining show, quite different than SL, however excellent in its own way. White Collar’s major advantage is Matt Bomer. Although he’s been around for years, for most people, he’s likely the freshest, hottest thing to hit hollywood in years both visually and figuratively.
