"Fringe's" Third Season Pick-up Is a Full Season (22 Episode) Order

There were several comments wondering about whether the third season renewal for Fringe was a full season order of 22 episodes or a 13 episode pick-up.  Since none of the stories I'd seen or the press release touched on it, it was a reasonable question.  So I asked FOX.   It is a full season pick-up with an order for  22 episodes.

Not only a renewal, but a full load. Impressive. Thank God Fox is finally not outright killing another Sci Fi / Genre show…

(*weeps for Firefly, Space:Above and Beyond and all the other classics that have come before…)

Makes sense given last years full season pickup as well (vs a normal 13 pickup for a typical second season show).

  11. grr_argh, we do have some contacts at FOX and they have been (like most of the networks, honestly) very helpful. In this case though, I just e-mailed the PR contact for Fringe (I’d never contacted him before) and asked him.

  13. Yay! I love Fringe. I hope the Season 2 cliffhanger is as good as last season’s, although it will be tough to top.

I’m mildly surprised at this, I figured the low numbers for most of the season would result in them being a bit wary in going the full 22 again right off the bat, but lookie here.

I wonder how much of the Fox fall schedule is going to be scripted. With Dance leaving, there’s some holes, and I think a full season pickup for a bubble show like Fringe points toward at least one or two of those three hours being filled with scripted content.

So this should put the show at around 66 episodes after Season 3. Would only take 1.5 more to reach syndication and JJ has stated he already has an end game, just doesn’t know when it starts yet. Unless Fringe entirely bombs in Season 3 I bet we’ll end up seeing it around for as long as JJ’s vision has it planned for. Great news!

Perhaps, WB wants Fringe to have enough episodes for syndication, so they gave Fox a sweet deal
