After losing on Monday night, Jay Leno was back to winning on Tuesday. On Tuesday night The Tonight Show had a 1.1 rating with adults 18-49 based on fast national numbers (which cover the country more broadly than the 25 local People Meter markets we reported this morning). Letterman's Late Show had a 0.9 rating with adults 18-49.
The Tonight Show also lead the Late Show in average viewers, 4.216 million to 3.973 million.
Nightline scored a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 3.288 million viewers.
I haven't seen adults 25-54 ratings yet. Will add themhere if/when I do.

I'm glad Leno beat Dave again. Those Leno haters can bitch about something else. Dave the horn dog will be milking this all week, people are sick of hearing that crap.
Hmm. These numbers are kind of saddening. . . how much did NBC spend on advertising for Leno's return? So much for returning to the seat of power and domination haha.
YEAH!! I knew Leno be back on top!
extortion trial is the reason why letterman had a slight edge monday.
otherwise, awesome.
This is higher than conan’s but how does it compare to leno’s average from last year — didn’t he lose like a million viewers or so?

It looks like Jay is puckering up to kiss the collective ass of boring ole Middle America. Mission accomplished. Leno’s monologues are as funny as plates of mashed potatoes. Letterman is getting better and better. Late Night with David Letterman was really the best. I wish that Dave would go all the way and make The Late Show as fun as his best show: Late Night with David Letterman.

Leno is comedy poison, you Leno nuthuggers make me want to be sodomoized by a coked up rhino
Can you say, “Backlash,” Leno? It seems NBC's hopes of Leno's second coming fell flat. His numbers may be good, but not great.
Ouch, bad trend for Letterman to be in a win/almost win situation one night and then outright lose the next.
I don't think you're phrasing that right…

AHA! I told you so!
Letterman is an old wet blanket compared to Leno and Leno is only 10000000000 times funnier that Letterman.
Leno may lose some overall viewers(he shouldn’t) but he will ALWAYS consistently beat Letterman and CoNON!!

Bill,
This article says that Letterman won last night in total viewers, and also mentions the 25-54 demo. Are these the final results?

“The viewer match-up was so close it had to be taken to a second decimal point to break the tie. Mr. Letterman averaged 4.05 million viewers on Tuesday night while Mr. Leno averaged 4.01 million”
