Mattel will be rolling out new versions of Barbie and Ken based on four characters from Mad Men (Joan Holloway, Roger Sterling and Don & Betty Draper).

The dolls are part of a premium-price collectors’ series for adults that Mattel calls the Barbie Fashion Model Collection. Although there have been Barbies and Kens based on other TV series, among them “I Love Lucy” and “The X-Files,” the dolls will be the first licensed line for that collection, Mattel says, with a suggested retail price of $74.95 each.

$300 for the set!  Which will sell more, the Joan doll or the Don doll?

How about none of them? ;) Seriously, I don’t understand why people would buy this but I guess to each his/her own..

The Joan doll doesn’t even come close to actually looking like Christina Hendricks from the neck down! Who thought we’d actually be able to say a Barbie doll isn’t curvy enough?

I’d totally spend $300 on a Tickle-Me-Gordon-Ramsey doll that spouted random vitriolic obscenities. And at least $150 on a set of dolls of the presenters from Top Gear. (Barbie Jeremy Clarkson: the worst-dressed action figure ever!) And I know of a lot of people who’d drop $75 a pop on Barbie versions of Trinity from The Matrix, but they’ve got, um, issues.

But the cast of Mad Men? Clearly I’m missing something, here…

Well THIS is a strange arrangement…

Roger Sterling kind of looks like a young Steve Martin, and they certainly didn't capture the gorgeousness of Don Draper. Oh well, what can you expect from a doll.

The Joan doll looks nothing like Christina Hendricks from the waist down. Who knew we'd have to criticize a Barbie doll for not being curvy enough?!

Who would have guess that Mattel deals in satire as well?!!!

If Don Draper is anatomically correct I'll buy a couple!!

That's interesting — the faces are retro to the original Barbie from the 50's. Makes sense. Wonder if its the retro body as well.

They don't have cocktail glasses or cigarettes, they're not very authentic.
