With the holocaust at NBC, everyone is so distracted by the mushroom cloud that nobody seems to notice ABC's ship ran into an iceberg. While ABC isn't radioactive like NBC is, its ratings are down year over year nearly as much as NBC's are.
That is usually very easy to see in the network averages, but not always so apparent in the show rankings.
The new cycle of Dancing With the Stars may improve its short-term fate, but the prospects at ABC aren't looking so great otherwise. Last week, the outgoing Lost was ABC's #1 show with adults 18-49, beating out Grey's Anatomy.
Meanwhile, even though it was down ~20% itself, CBS's Undercover Boss beat Desperate Housewives.
ABC can be chipper about its new "hit" Modern Family, and ratings-wise, it's a nice little show on par with How I Met Your Mother. But it's no Big Bang Theory.
In the short-run, a new cycle of Dancing With the Stars, plus the continued mushroom cloud at NBC will likely continue to distract the media from the big hole in ABC's ship a while longer. Sooner or later though, they'll get around to asking if that's a bucket in Steve McPherson's hands.
Here's last week's (week ending March 14) top 25 rankings with adults 18-49.
