FOX ORDERS THIRD HELPING OF “Kitchen Nightmares

FOX has ordered a third season of Kitchen Nightmares, the ultimate restaurant revival show, it was announced today by Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

During the third season, Michelin-starred Chef Gordon Ramsay will travel the country visiting restaurants that are in desperate need of his help. With Ramsay’s reputation on the line, he will demand absolute excellence and perfection from the owners as he gives them advice on everything from food and décor to customer service and staff changes. With some training and reinforcement, Ramsay hopes to help breathe new life into these failing eateries or else many will be forced to close their doors forever.

In the next all-new episode of this season’s Kitchen Nightmares, airing Friday, March 19 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, Chef Ramsay visits Mama Rita’s, a struggling Mexican restaurant in Newbury Park, CA. Owner Laura dreams of honoring her grandmother’s cooking legacy, but finds the transition from a successful catering business to restaurant ownership challenging. With a chaotic atmosphere in the kitchen and a lack of leadership from management, this restaurant faces foreclosure if Gordon is unable to help Laura’s cooking staff add some spice back into their business.

I enjoy Kitchen Nightmares for what it is. I didn't doubt it would back at some point as it seems to do well whenever it's put on. I don't understand why Fox is having two hour installments of Hells Kitchen for 8 weeks in a row. I can only take it one hour at a time.

Just ate the other week at the Hot Potato Cafe (featured above and in week 1). It was good. Big improvement since Gordon was in.

  2. This is just weird. Lol. I said this: “I enjoy Kitchen Nightmares for what it is” right in my head before the page finished loading.

    But I agree.

It doesn't take itself too seriously, I think. It's a funny show.

This show is already airing it's 3rd season, starting back in January. It's first season aired in 2007 and the second in 2008.Someone at Fox needs to check these press releases before they're released.

This isn't a surprise. For the money they have to spend on production vs. the ratings, even on a highly competitive Thursday, this show is a solid money maker for FOX.

Although the UK version is far superior to the US version. Mainly for 3 reasons:

    1) Ramsay does all the narration for the UK version. It softens the image considerably and you find out what he's really thinking as he encounters each restaurant.
    2) No canned music. The UK version uses different songs for a theme.
    3) Better editing team. The BBC crew is a lot better than the FOX crew.

  5. Spongetim – I checked with FOX. The first season had two airing cycles, so you're right in terms of airngs, but in terms of orders from FOX, this represents the third order.

As much as I dislike Gordon Ramsay, Kitchen Nightmares is hilarious to watch. As much for the staged, over-the-top drama as for Ramsay's childish antics.

Networks really make this season thing difficult to understand…

  8. On top of these three reasons, I seem to recall the British version not being so formulaic as the Fox one.

The UK version is better but I watch th US version because Fox smartly puts it on when there are no shows that I am interested in on the other networks.

Agreed on all accounts. His narration does make his effort more personable and hilarious.By having a narrator, we keep GR on a pedestal and keep us guessing. I like the contemporary pop music that the UK version incorporates. It doesn't compare. Lastly, US editing is toward conflict and frenetic camera shots vs. the pastoral, calm pieces in the UK. Don't get me wrong – we still have the profanity but in smaller doses.

One of my UK KN fave is the Fish and Anchor. He's a pisser as a marriage counselor.

Fish and Anchor was a good one.
My fave is Mamas Soul Food kitchen.
She is one of the few in the 4-5 years to have good food that Ramsey actually liked.
Watching him turn green at some of the food on some episodes is kind of fun though.

My problem with KN is that it seems so “staged”. Yeah unscripted is manipulated, but do we really think that the relaunch dinner service can start out bad and then suddenly everyone is happy and all works out great in the end? You can't expect a kitchen staff to start cooking a completely new menu only a couple hours after they saw the dishes.

I do like Ramsey's foul mouth and enjoy the show when he gets someone who is just as nasty throwing it right back at him. On Friday nights it works for me.
