Paula Abdul Says "No" To Reboot of "Star Search" On ABC

James Hibberd reports that Paula Abdul and ABC could not come to terms on Abdul judging an updated version of the talent show Star Search.

Like many people (including probably Hibberd, though he didn't bring it up) I'm still thinking Abdul lands on Simon Cowell's  The X-Factor which will launch on Fox in the fall of 2011.  But that would still leave Abdul a bit of time to try something else.

So are they still going through with the reboot, or does this kill it? Because there are way too many talent shows on TV already, especially when X-Factor starts.

  2. Catiebug: ABC says it may still move forward with it anyway. We'll see.

I'm willing to bet that ABC still goes ahead with it. I think the show is a horrible idea but ABC isn't exactly known for having great shows in the summer.

They shouldve given her a few drinks first.

Too bad there isn't an Ed Mc Mahon JUNIOR…

I hate to say it but miss Paula, at least she made the show entertaining, it seams really dull this year. Simon just seams board with it can't wait to get out. Ellen and the other chick just seam very out of place. I like Ellen not on Idol. Paula and Simon have chemistry, even thought they act like they don't like each other they are fun to watch.

She should go on America's Got Talent. I think that show would benefit from a 4th judge, especially one that is American.

Good call. I think she'll most definitely join Simon on the X-Factor.

Well Dannii Minogue of the UK X-Factor is taking maternity this year, so my guess is Cowell will get Paula on the UK X-Factor for a trial run for a year, leaving Dannii to come back in 2011.

That way Simon won't get bad publicity for sacking a pregnant judge like the BBC did when they replaced Denise Van Outen with Charlotte Church on their musical shows, as Minogue would be back and it'd give Fox and Cowell a chance to see if Paula can manage mentoring 4 acts for 12 weeks.

Paula likely already has a verbal commitment from Simon for the X-Factor which is destined to be huge on Fox. Why take a chance with crappy ABC.

I would say money is the primary factor. That's the reason she left Idol, and probably why she couldn't seal a deal with ABC. Money may be the only hangup when it comes to her joining Simon on X-Factor.

    Paula Who? LOL

I dont miss Paula at all on AI, she never added anything to the show except Slurred Speech and Confusion!

AI is a much better tighter show without the Abdul Distractions

Ellen Degeneres is Fantastic on AI

Smart move. Whether she's locked in or not, she should keep herself open to doing X-Factor. While I'm certainly not alone in this belief, X-Factor in one season, will be the biggest show on American TV, and firmly replace American Idol as the top reality show. AI will become a memory of the 2000's and for Abdul to remain relevant, she needs to get herself on that show at all costs.
