Jay and Dave are back at it again in late night, and I'll continue to chart their weekly adults 18-49 ratings averages as long as there's reader interest. Jay took the first two weeks, but late night's not a sprint, its a marathon, and who knows what lies ahead.

For historical reference, here are last season's 18-49 season-to-date averages through March 20, 2009:
NBC “Tonight,” 1.4 rating/6 share
CBS “Late Show,” 1.1/4
And for additional historical reference, here is the tally of the adults 18-49 ratings for the entire run of Conan O'Brien's Tonight Show, except the final week of repeats prior to the Winter Olympics.

I aint happy with this at all but at least Conan's fans are not watching Leno!!!
Is there really that big of a difference in ad revenue between a 1.0 and a 1.2 rating?
In the case of late night I don't think we really know. There are reports that Late Night made more ad revenue than Tonight Show even when Jay Leno was hosting and regularly beating Letterman in the demos and in total viewers by more comfortable margins than these. I've never seen NBC dispute those reports nor have I seen anything explaining why that is the case.

I think and this is just opinion Late Night makes more because I think despite the fact that many think 18-49 is the only thing that matters, I think income, gender, and where the audience base is located plays a factor. I'd venture to guess Letterman's audiences are bigger on the coasts than Leno while Leno does better in the center of the country. And sadly I think many advertisers place a higher pricetag on those audiences.
I saw Leno doing 20 push ups – so perhaps he has the stamina for a marathon
I wonder two things, one if the experts think that, Conan comes back, who he will take more viewers from, CBS or NBC, and second, does CBS have Letterman on suicide watch yet, he is losing again and the female staff is now off limits,, look out Sarah Palin
Sorry, but Dave's “Late Show” is far superior to the now cheapened “Tonight Show.” What happened to Jay's band? What? Five members with Kevin now? It is “Tonight Show' Lite” in my opinion. A huge audience but cheapened product.
I can't understand why anyone would still watch Leno after all he's done. He forced Johnny Carson into early retirement. He's tainted The Tonight Show with his insipid humor and lack of interviewing skills. And when he realized he couldn't hold an earlier slot, he took it back from Conan like a petulent child. I know some people just don't like Dave, and he's done some rotten things lately as well. But Leno doesn't deserve to have a show anymore. He's a no-talent TV whore, and I look forward to the day when his fat, ugly face is no longer polluting the airwaves.
