We're used to seeing fan campaigns to save just about any show on the broadcast and basic cable networks, but fans rally to save PBS shows, too.
New York's WNET,org announced plans to end its Worldfocus that is distributed across the country after 18 months and the New York Times reports dedicated viewers are trying to save it. Like most such campaigns the outlook isn't good:
But like a similar campaign in recent months to save “Now on PBS,” which will show its last episode April 30, the impassioned efforts of some dedicated viewers seem unlikely to succeed before the show goes off the air on April 2.
WNET.org's chief executive Neal Shapiro says, "I think it would take an incredible miracle," to keep Worldfocus going, noting that the show got funding, just not enough funding to continue. PBS was among those who declined to finance the show.
Unlike most of the shows we see this happen with, there's no huge outcry among fans hoping for another network to pick the shows up.

Is it too late to start the “Save Reading Rainbow” campaign?
Is it too late to start the “Save Reading Rainbow” campaign?
When it was first canceled, I remember hearing that Burton had suggested doing it in some form online.
Then I didn’t hear anymore news, and figured nothing came of it.
You may not have said that seriously, but a couple days ago LeVar Burton said that work is in progress on bringing it back…
It’s a shame. We Americans don’t give a * blank about anyone other than us and the biased newscasts and poor journalism all over Fox, MSNBC, CNN, and the networks to a lessor degree is appalling. Everyone wants a cliff notes version of news. No other news program covered international news stories better than this. It’s sad it’s leaving. Stories about Human Rights changes in China, more women working in the Muslim world, the ongoing battles in Afghanistan were well done. Too bad we are all too fascinated with Tiger Woods and Jay Leno to care.
PBS is obviously wanting “Antiques Roadshow” to fail. I mean they ran the episodes out of order and in my area they are airing it up against Chuck, How I Met Your Mother, and House! I know people are tired of reality shows but I think it is a niche show that just doesn't appeal to the target demographic. Nielsen is antiquated already, as the broadcast nets have shown, so why even bother?
The rare bingo card blackout achieved in a single comment!
Yay me! haha
Wow sonicad, I do follow his Twitter, but I must have missed that! Sure enough, it's on the Huffington Post today as well.

being one of those mean conservatives that wouldn't mind gov't public broadcasting funding cuts–mainly because i thought programs like sesame street, nova, along with reading rainbow and my personal fave curious george (i realize i'm way too old, but that monkey is great)–would be scooped up by niche channels like discovery, TLC, noggin/nick jr, etc.
i guess the math doesn't work out and/or these channels want wholly owned shows.
i'm still shocked bugs bunny / looney tunes isn't really on the dial anywhere
You forgot the “they didn't feature it during the pledge drive” excuse, Bill.
