3.4 Million Viewers Tuned Into Meet The Press Making It the #1 Sunday Public Affairs Program

AS HISTORY WAS BEING MADE THIS PAST SUNDAY ON THE HEALTHCARE REFORM BILL, 3.4 MILLON VIEWERS TUNED INTO “MEET THE PRESS,” MAKING IT THE NO. 1 SUNDAY PUBLIC AFFAIRS PROGRAM NATIONALLY AND IN WASHINGTON D.C.
(NEW YORK) – March 25, 2010 – “Meet the Press” was the most-watched Sunday morning public affairs program in all categories for the week ending March 21, 2010 according to Nielsen Media Research data. The NBC broadcast was No. 1, delivering 3.390 million total viewers, 11% more (+335,000) than second place CBS’ “Face the Nation” 3.055 million, a +39% lead (+959,000) over third place ABC’s “This Week” 2.431 million, and a +181% advantage (+2,184,000) over FOX News Sunday’s 1.206 million viewers. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in total viewers for 435 of the past 440 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage). Rebroadcasts of the program delivered an additional 1,196,000 viewers (482,000 on the network re-air, and 714,000 on msnbc rebroadcasts).
In Washington, D.C., “Meet the Press” beat the competition with 107,000 viewers (3.7/12 HH). The NBC program had a +296% advantage over ABC’s 27,000 (0.9/3 HH), a +106% lead over FOX News’ 52,000 viewers (1.8/5 HH), and +81% more than CBS’ 59,000 (2.2/7 HH).
In homes nationally, the NBC broadcast topped the competition with a 2.4 rating and 7 share. CBS came in second with 2.2/6, ABC placed third with a 1.8/5 and FOX was last with 0.9/3. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in households for 533 of the past 536 weeks (when everyone is at full coverage).
Among adults 25-54, the NBC Sunday morning program was first with 1,075,000 viewers. CBS was second with 865,000 viewers, ABC third with 810,000 viewers and FOX News was last with 429,000 viewers.
Season-to-date, “Meet the Press” now leads second-place “Face The Nation” by +18% in total viewers and +15% in A25-54 (000). Versus the 1Q’10-to-date average, the program increased in rating W25-54 (+13%). Week-to-week, “Meet the Press” was up +350,000 total viewers (+12%) and +199,000 A25-54 viewers (+23%).
On its digital platforms, “Meet the Press” generated more than 553,000 online video streams from March 21 through March 25, 2010. The “Meet the Press” video podcast (available at www.mtp.msnbc.com) remains the top ranked network Sunday Morning program podcast on iTunes.
Last week’s guests were House Republican Leader Rep. John Boehner, House Democratic Leader Rep. Steny Hoyer, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee Fmr. Gov. Tim Kaine and Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele. The roundtable featured Former Obama White House Communications Director, Anita Dunn; Former Counselor to President George W. Bush, Ed Gillespie; PBS’s Tavis Smiley; and NBC News’ Chuck Todd.
