Miami Medical premieres this Friday at 10p, and it's hardly a shock that the first review I've seen isn't very good. The Hollywood Reporter's review skewered the show, pronouncing Miami Medical dead on arrival.
Bottom Line: This far-fetched medical series is all but dead on arrival. The latest collaboration of one of Hollywood's pre-eminent power couples, CBS and Jerry Bruckheimer, is "Miami Medical," a well-produced graphic but otherwise terminally mediocre drama.
Quite possibly, CBS is signaling a similar assessment of this flashy-but-shallow series by scheduling it Friday night. That's where most shows go to fade, not to flower.
If I am a Numb3rs fan (and I am) or a Medium fan who prefers to worry "just because" I don't know that I'd be particularly heartened by this. Reviews don't translate well to actual ratings and it's possible the show will do as well as any other Friday night show despite the reviews.
Though Friday isn't necessarily a death sentence, it's tough to argue with the logic that CBS isn't very bullish on the show or it wouldn't have debuted it on a Friday. It's not like CBS is completely lacking in options. It could have, for instance, debuted Miami Medical on Sunday and moved Cold Case (another Bruckheimer production), now in its seventh year to Fridays.
Giving Miami Medical the benefit of the big Undercover Boss lead-in at least once -- even if it then immediately shipped it off to Fridays -- would have indicated CBS wanted to be proactive in building Miami Medical's audience.

i will be watching friday….
Why does this whole situation sound kind of familiar? Oh yeah, we had something similar at the start of the season with Three Rivers. Though if I'm remembering correctly that did get the plum Sunday time slot, and still bombed. Maybe that's part of what prompted CBS to put MM on Fridays?
It looks like another trauma to me
I'd hardly call Sunday plum, going up against SNF & DH (especially before DH started dropping) and getting delayed by 30 mins every other weekend.
But yes, that CBS is scheduling this on Friday (I presume the budget is at least average, if not higher) indicates that they consider it all-but-dead already.
Not really surprising, it looked like CBS's answer to Grey's. Avoid at all cost. I'm just thankful it's gone to die quickly on Friday.
Didn't blockbuster hits like Everybody Loves Raymond and CSI start out on Friday nights, now I'm not saying Miami Medical WILL become a top 10 hit for years in a row, but I'm saying don;t rule it out just yet, CBS could surprise us.
There's always the possibility of a surprise hit, but I think it's clear that CBS doesn't think this show has a chance.
Thta's exactly what I'm saying, don't rule it out just yet. It's a pity we'll never see a show liek ER again, Miami Medical seems like a show about some egotistical douche. I wonder if this will be like Days of Our Lives or something, this pours coffee into somee guy's brain and suddenly he is cured of his cancer…
Well, at least if it starts on Friday, nobody can say it lost viewers in the transition from Sunday to Friday.
The ads make it look like the dumbest re-hash of all the other medical shows. Count me out!
Trauma, Mercy, Miami Medical… everybody wants to be Grey's Anatomy… sad.
DOA for sure, I don't think it will pull over a 1.2 (maybe higher on the first night). In the (very) unlikely case it survives, it will probably share timeslots with Medium, because I don't see Medium getting canceled on account of this show.
I for one am glad that this show is unlikely to succeed; raises the chances of John Wells' medical drama getting on the sked next year.
