BET CELEBRATES TOP FIRST QUARTER IN NETWORK HISTORY

Network Continues Ratings Growth with the Sixth Consecutive Quarter to Post

Year-Over-Year Gains

NEW YORKMarch 31, 2010—BET continues its historic ratings momentum and closes the first quarter of 2010 with a bang.  According to Nielsen Media Research, BET concluded the quarter garnering an average of 524,000 total viewers and marked the number one first quarter performance among adults in network history and the number two performance overall among adults – following the record set in Q4 2009.  This strong ratings performance follows an aggressive strategy that included new original programming, big signature specials, key acquisitions and blockbuster movies.

Key highlights from the quarter include:

  • This quarter was BET’s best first quarter performance overall in four years and the number one first quarter in BET history among adults and women
  • BET remains the number one cable network among blacks 18-34 for 41 consecutive quarters and among blacks 18-49 for 22 consecutive quarters
  • The network is also among the top 10 ad-supported cable growth networks among adults 18-49
  • BET is a top 20 ad-supported cable network among Adults 18-49

Contributing to these gains, all first quarter 2010 mega specials posted triple digit time-slot gains versus season-to-date and last year.  With 2.6 million viewers, the 2010 CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL was the number one CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL in BET history and the tenth consecutive year as television’s number one gospel/religious telecast.  The 2010 telecast of THE BET HONORS garnered 2.4 million viewers is the ad-supported cable’s number one 2010 weeknight entertainment special.  According to Nielsen Media Research, RIP THE RUNWAY 2010 received 2 million viewers and is cable’s number one fashion themed telecast for 2010.

Additionally, The Family Crews premiere episodes rank among the top three reality series telecasts on Sunday nights among black households.  THE MO’NIQUE SHOW remains the number one late night variety show on television in black households for the second consecutive quarter.   First quarter 2010 telecasts of 106 & PARK posted double-digit gains versus last year and remains the number one music variety show on cable for 11 consecutive quarters.   Moreover, BOBBY JONES GOSPEL continues as the number one gospel variety series on television year after year.
