Variety's Rick Kissell writes that change is likely for CBS's aging CSI: franchise:
All three shows remain fairly popular -- and on most weeks they win their hours in total viewers -- but there's no guarantee they will all be on the fall sked. And keeping all three in the same timeslot for a sixth straight fall seems even more unlikely.
As currently scheduled, each "CSI" is the beneficiary of some of the Eye's strongest lead-ins, and CBS may feel the time is right to get more production out of those slots.
Kissell argues of the three, the one most likely to stay where it is, is CSI: Miami and I agree with Kissell about that. Kissell suggests NY could either just vanish from the schedule for the fall or move to Fridays, and that CSI could just bounce to Thursdays at 10pm or move to Fridays.
I don't like the move to Friday for CSI: NY very much, especially in light of its recent 2.3 rating (finals) on Wednesday. How well is it likely to do on Fridays, even relative to other Friday fare? For sentimental reasons I sort of like the notion of ultimately moving CSI back to Friday and letting it finish its TV life on the night it began. I would be surprised to see that happen for next season though.
