Josef Adalian, now writing for New York Magazine's Vulture reports that NBC is likely to cancel Heroes, though perhaps wrap it up with a two hour movie:
For weeks, even in the face of Heroes' bottom-dwelling ratings, conventional wisdom among TV-industry insiders has been that NBC was leaning heavily toward bringing back its once-mighty superhero series for a fifth and final thirteen-episode wrap-up season. But as NBC has become more confident in its slate of new shows, all indications are that our Heroes are dead.

Make it a mini-series and never air it.
Not surprised.
It's season-long average made it appear better than it was – its ratings fell off a cliff in the second half of its last season.
I like the idea of a movie or mini-series to wrap it up. Hopefully it gets done.
Thank you, God!
I think this is best. Even once ardent fans are calling for its cancelation so that they can be put out of their misery. If Heroes still has any supporters left, they're a tiny, silent group.
Good riddance! After a mostly brilliant first season, it rapidly turned into one of the biggest pile of crap in television history.
Well to some extent this surprises me more than the report of Chuck being renewed.
It''s not official is only a rumor isn't it?
Two hour movie? No thank you if its going to be its own standalone plot. Good decision, NBC.
It's ratings average is better than Chucks this year, and Chuck has been under 2.0 just as much as Heroes.
Not surprising. Been saying this would happen for the past 4 months, since the final episode.
That's not a “haha, I was right” bit either. You could see this coming from the way NBC would talk about Heroes since its finale.
Forget the full-season average. Look at how far and quickly Heroes dropped during its season.
halleh-freakin-lujah! There is a God, and he hates directionless storytelling!
noooooooooo.. heroes wasn't at its best this season, but i enjoyed seasons 2 & 3 no matter what anyone said
i had such hope that it would get a 13-episode final season
COME ON NBC!!!! make it fridays mid-season for all i care. just give us a few episodes. but i guess a 2-hour movie would be much better than nothing at all!
Same with Chuck, took about six or seven episodes to get back down to 1.9-2.1.
Correct. Not only that, but look at how far its fallen from its Season 1 ratings. This show is a shadow of itself.
Whereas Chuck is down 8-10% from last year, Heroes is down 25-30%. Chuck also averaged some 8 million viewers its first season, Heroes averaged about 14. And, finally, Chuck is produced by WB for a licensing fee that NBC has to pay, whereas Heroes is wholly produced by NBC (and attendant 4 million per episode budget, Chuck's licensing fee is less than half that).
It's only speculating… like did kristin and another journalist. Angela B. said that they will decide at upfronts and there are good chances, so we'll see…
A final 2 hour show would do it – wrap it up. This past season has been AWFUL and has been even worse to view.
I wouldn't be surprised either way. I wouldn't be surprised if it is canceled (as I said before, NBC has picked up so many pilots, some will have to serve as midseason replacements – why do you need Heroes then?), and I wouldn't be surprised if it is renewed (as no other midseason options are likely to net NBC-Uni DVD/Syndication sales in the short term).
Personally, I would love for the show to be done (especially if they give it a 2 hour wrap up movie), but the math could go either way.
Heroes drop came at a time when its competition was not, while Chucks drop has been experienced by all the networks in the 8pm slot since DST. So I see why that makes Chuck look better now. That said, I am still suprised they did not give Heroes a 13 episode as a possible mid-season seeing how NBC profits from the DVD and any syndication rights.I thought they would both be back in one form or another.
