Today and tomorrow, I'll be recapping this season's predictions in my Renew / Cancel Index in separate posts for each network. Wednesday, I'll have a post showing how the methods I'm going to use next season would have worked (and improved things) this season.

While Robert and I made our final predictions for the ABC shows two weeks ago, everybody in the TV media does that. With the Renew / Cancel Index, I make predictions after a single episode airs!

For the most part, ABC shows were easy to predict this season.

  • Better Off Ted: Predicted canceled after first episode (12/15/09)
  • Scrubs: Predicted in danger after first episode (12/8/09), Predicted canceled (12/22/09)
  • The Deep End: Predicted canceled after first episode (1/26/10)
  • Hank: Predicted canceled after first episode (10/6/09)
  • Ugly Betty: Predicted canceled after first episode (10/20/09)
  • the forgotten: Predicted canceled after first episode (10/6/09)
  • Eastwick: Predicted in danger after first episode (9/29/09), Predicted canceled  (10/13/09)
  • Happy Town: Predicted canceled after first episode (5/4/10)
  • Castle: Predicted canceled after first episode (9/29/09), predicted in danger (10/27/09), predicted renewed (2/2/10)
  • The Middle: Predicted in danger after first episode (10/6/09), ABC renewed (1/12/10)
  • FlashForward: Predicted renewed after first episode (10/13/09), predicted in danger (11/18/09), predicted canceled (3/23/10)
  • Romantically Challenged: Predicted renewed after first episode, ABC canceled.
  • V: Predicted renewed after first episode, predicted in danger (2/2/10), predicted canceled (4/20/10), predicted in danger (4/27/10)
  • Cougar Town, Brothers & Sisters, Modern Family, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Private Practice: Predicted renewed after first episode.

Castle gave me fits through the first half of the season as its ratings started low and kept climbing. Still, I predicted renewal well in advance of the ABC decision. Not so with The Middle, I still was predicting it to be in danger of cancellation when ABC renewed it. As anti-Retentionista as I am, I failed to appreciate the Samantha Who? writing on the wall and continued to predict renewal for Romantically Challenged. I predicted V to be canceled for a single week, before pulling back to in danger. It will be one of the poster children for my new methods next season.

Of course in hindsight it all seems so obvious, but you may wish to amuse yourself with all the fan excuses/complaints/wails in all the original posts.

You can see all the ABC Renew / Cancel Index posts from this season here if you'd like to do your own recap.
