A Bull Market For TV Sitcoms? Apparently Not
There’s been a lot of chatter in the TV media about sitcoms in broadcast primetime. From the entirely unprovable “people want more sitcoms because of the recession”, to the “ABC did so well with sitcoms last season, everybody’s going to schedule more”.
I wondered earlier whether there was A Bull Market For Sitcoms, Or Just Sitcom Pilots?.
As it turns out, it was just a bull market for sitcom pilots, as the number of half hour sitcoms in Fall 2010 is identical to the number in Fall 2009.
There are six new sitcoms scheduled for next fall, but they just replace the same number that were canceled. It turned out to be just a TV meme bandwagon run amok.
How about “Buy a Vowel: TV Series Names Beginning With Vowels Explode!”
(Silly, but at least true, there’s two more net vowel fronted primetime shows next fall)
