2010 NBA Playoff Ratings Down on TNT
Sports Media Watch makes the astute observation that long series = higher ratings, and that the second round sweeps this year in the NBA Playoffs hurt TNT ratings.
Not only do long series build interest, but in both broadcast and cable, playoff basketball and baseball will almost always rate more highly than whatever else the network might be able to broadcast instead of games 5, 6 and 7.
TNT averaged a 2.7 U.S. rating and 4.3 million viewers for the 2010 NBA Playoffs, down 13% in ratings and 8% in viewership from last year (3.1, 4.7 mil), but up 4% and 13%, respectively, from 2008 (2.6, 3.8 mil).
