“World News with Diane Sawyer” Increases Total Viewing and Demo Audiences Week to Week
Year to Year “World News” Closes Total Viewing and Demo Gaps with NBC
ABC Increases Both Total Viewing and Demo Advantages Over CBS Week to Week
For the week of May 31st, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 6.92 million Total Viewers and a 1.6/7 among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. Compared to the previous week, “World News” delivered 270,000 more Total Viewers and 60,000 more Adults 25-54.
Compared to the same period last year, “World News” cut the gap among Adults 25-54 with “NBC Nightly News” by 29% and the total viewing gap by 3%.
The week of May 31st marks ABC’s largest weekly demo lead over “CBS Evening News” since February and its largest total viewing lead in a month. “World News” increased its advantage among Adults 25-54 over “CBS Evening News” by 52% and its advantage among Total Viewers by 37% compared to the previous week. Additionally, “World News” increased its total viewing advantage by 4% year to year.
Note: ABC’s weekly average is based on 3 days (Tues, Wed, Fri) due to Memorial Day and Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday. NBC and CBS are based on 4 day averages (Tues-Fri).
Last week “World News” continued its extensive coverage of the oil spill in the Gulf, with team coverage throughout the week from George Stephanopoulos, Chris Cuomo, Sam Champion, Jake Tapper, Matt Gutman and Ryan Owens. Brian Ross also reported on previously unreleased videos showing the scope of the oil spill from the outset of the crisis.
