Monday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

With “The Bachelorette” and “True Beauty,” ABC won Monday night among Adults 18-49 (2.3/7), pacing 15% ahead of its nearest competition (2.0/6 – CBS) and beating out NBC’s summer premieres (1.8/5 – 2-hour “Last Comic Standing”/debut of “Persons Unknown”) by 28% and Fox’s summer premieres (1.6/5 – “Lie To Me”/”The Good Guys”) by 44%.

  • ABC was up over the year-ago Monday (6/8/09) among Total Viewers (6.9 million 6.4 million) for the 2nd week in a row.

“The Bachelorette” (8:00-10:00 p.m.)

From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Bachelorette” ranked No. 1 in its 2-hour time period for the 2nd week in a row in both Total Viewers (7.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.6/8). The ABC unscripted series also won its 2-hour slot for the 3rd consecutive week among its core audience of Women 18-34 (3.4/11).

  • In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, ABC’s “The Bachelorette” posted year-to-year gains for the 3rd week running. In addition, “The Bachelorette” was up week to week by 4% in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 (7.6 million and 2.5/7 in Adults 18-49 on 5/31/10).

“True Beauty” (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

During the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s “True Beauty” finished No. 1 among Adults 18-49 (1.9/5-tie) and Adults 18-34 (1.6/5). The ABC unscripted series also won its slot for the 2nd straight week across all key Women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).

  • “True Beauty” topped the series debut of NBC’s “Person’s Unknown” by 16% in Total Viewers (5.0 million vs. 4.3 million) and by 46% in Adults 18-49 (1.9/5 vs. 1.3/4).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 36% currently, from 31% at the same point in 2009. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight
next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
