“NBA Finals on ABC – GM 3” (9:04 – 11:55 p.m., ET)

The “NBA Finals on ABC – GM 3” topped stiff competition during primetime, including Fox’s season finale of “Glee” and NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” to finish as Tuesday’s No. 1 TV program in Total Viewers (16.0 million) and across each of the key adult demographics: A18-34 (7.0/22), A18-49 (6.7/19) and A25-54 (6.6/18). It was the 3rd broadcast in a row for the 2010 NBA Finals to qualify as the evening’s highest-rated television program in viewers and key adults. The LA Lakers beat the Boston Celtics by a score of 91-84, to lead the best-of-seven series 2-1.

  • In viewers and young adults, it was the biggest Game 3 for the NBA Championship Series in 6 years and the second-highest-ever on ABC – since Game 3 of the 2004 series on 6/10/04. In addition, it was the highest-rated-ever Game 3 on ABC among Men 18-34, Men 18-49 and Teens 12-17.
  • Based on 3-game averages, the 2010 NBA Championship Series continues to pull the strongest results in 6 years (since 2004), its 2nd-highest-ever numbers on ABC in both Total Viewers (15.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (6.3/18). Compared to the first three games of 2009 (Lakers-Magic), The Finals is building year to year by 1.5 million viewers and by 11% in Adults 18-49 (13.8 million and 5.7/16).

Against the NBA, Fox had a big up night. Besides Glee, Hell's Kitchen rose 10% vs. last week to a 3.2 adults 18-49 rating.

NBC's America's Got Talent also shrugged off the NBA competition, rising 3% vs. last week to a 3.7 adults 18-49 rating. Losing It With Jillian didn't fare as well, down 19% vs. its premiere last Tuesday to a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating.

*Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted ViewingProgram ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
