Multiple media outlets are now reporting that Breaking Bad has been renewed for a fourth season by AMC.
Deadline.com's Nellie Andreeva reports the deal had been in the works for some months, and the sticking point had been closing the negotiated gap in the production budget between $3.1 and $3.3 million. Either number would be well above the conventional cost of about $2 million for an hour long cable drama, and closer to the typical cost of a broadcast drama.

So glad to see this is almost official. Not that there was any doubt that it was going to be renewed. Last week was the first week it dropped below the corresponding Mad Men episode in the demo, and Breaking Bad was up against NBA and NHL finals. Several weeks BB has actually been above MM in the demo.
Amazing episode last week. I can't wait to see the season finale when I get home.
Thank God. After tonight's cliffhanger, I couldn't handle it not getting a renewal.
The last five minutes were the tensest five minutes I've ever seen on television.
Could we have a complete table of ratings, please , Julia ?
Great season, can't wait to see where the show goes next.

When the ratings are available on Tuesday that will be complete.
Very relieved to see it will be back – one of the few shows that I watch on its broadcast day. The finale was superb and I will be back to see if Jessie cowboyed up to help Walt. GREAT SHOW!
This is a spoiler for those who have not watched, but not a spoiler for those who have. STOP READING IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED YET!
Jesse did “cowboy up.” The camera moved, not Jesse's arm. Vince Gilligan confirmed this in an interview. He didn't mean for it to be ambiguous.
Yep he did. The last five or so minutes of the episode (from when Walt got picked up at home) were breathtaking.
I really hope Aaron Paul wins the Best Supporting Actor Emmy this year.
Deservedly. Probably the best show on TV now. I can't wait for next season!
Too bad this got renewed. Easily the most boring and predictable show on TV. I guess the ending of each episode so often, I quit watching it. A total yawn of a show. About as exciting as an Obama speech.
Isn't the forth season the final season, I thought this series had a definitive ending mapped out to four seasons, still one of the best dramas on TV, ya its a little bit slow at times, so is dealing drugs, interspersed with frantic moments of craziness, love the show, can't wait to see how the tale ends.
I don't know what show you have been watching but Breaking Bad has become one of the best dramas currently on the air. The last two episodes totally blew me away. I am glad to see it will be back.
Just curious though – Green Mantis – what shows do you watch that aren't so predictable and boring?
He is watching “How to Successfully Troll on the Internet,” an incredibly low-rated show for something that winds up having such wide-reaching impact.
Nope, there is no definitive end, yet. Gilligan has said that he originally pictured the show as three seasons, but now he can see five seasons. But it could go longer. I just hope he knows when to end it.
I believe it may have been the continuing offers from AMC which caused his vision to extend beyond three seasons
I'm sure that didn't hurt.
I get stars in my eyes whenever I think of this show. Aaron Paul and Breaking Bad will be robbed if they do not get their respective Emmys. I also want Bryan Cranston to get his, but he's won twice, so I won't wail and gnash my teeth for too long. Jon Hamm is a respectable second choice.
Cool beans!
Julia, I think Jesse chickened out…..He most definitely turn that gun to the left before the screen went blank……
