The premiere of HBO's True Blood on Sunday night averaged 5.1 million viewers. That's up 38% from last season's premiere viewership. The second telecast at 11pm telecast averaged 1.3 million viewers.
Update: It scored a 2.9 adults 18-49 rating. Compare True Blood with the rest of the top cable show ratings on Sunday night.

Wonderful!
I hate to age someone but does anyone here remember Dark Shadows? It was a creepy soap about vampires. With all the movies and TV shows, made me start thinking of that. They should bring that back. But I just saw the A-Team movie, OMG never wanted to walk out of a movie, but not the price of a movie ticket. I haven't seen any of the vampire movie and TV shows. But I did like Buffy series. Their remaking that without the Buffy TV characters series. The crappy movie they made before the series, it will flop. But I have watched True Blood on HBO, they do everything they can't do since it's on HBO.
Yay True Blood! I went to a viewing party on Sunday and there was like 20 people there watching it, we all really enjoyed it so I'm glad the ratings are up.
Yay! How does that compare to other shows on HBO and channels like it? And will you post what the ratings were?
Thank you so much! I've been following this website for a couple years (I rarely post) and you guys do such a fantastic job with everything. Keep up the good work!
Yes that's what I'm talking about
I think that this credit goes to the Posters campaign .. great job HBO
It's pretty much the highest rated show on cable (in the demo). But that doesn't really matter to HBO… what matters is that True Blood makes HBO a must have for cable subscribers.
If proportional to last season's finale, then True Blood's probably in the overall 18-49 T10 this week. Well, okay, maybe not if each NBA Countdown and each Jimmy Kimmel Pre-Game Thingie counts as programming and ABC gets to have 9 shows on the list just from one game series.
I think HBO should do more series, they let the creators free, do almost anything they want, that would bring in more subscribers. Who ever can afford $12 dollars a month, that's how much it is in my area, is it like that everywhere else?
Further proof that porn is still the #1 media industry in America!
woohooo
I remember Dark Shadows very well. Actually, a few years ago there was talk of doing a new Dark Shadows series. I believe it was going to possibly be on the CW network, but apparently it fell through. Dark Shadows was lots of fun in the 1960's, especially when the scenes were done live every day. Live TV made a big difference. I greatly appreciate that the Vampire Diaries series that is on CW now is written more like Dark Shadows and less like Twilight, although for fans of Twilight, they have every right to like that, too. As for Buffy, I really liked that series, too. And I really like True Blood, which is more aimed toward an adult audience than any of the others. BTW-Moonlight was OK, too.
Fantastic. Or should that be fangtastic!
Here's the best moments from the premiere in case you missed them – watch out a couple of shots are nsfw. Loving Sophie Anne – how come Evan Rachel Wood is actually acting now!

I don't know if this is good news or bad news, they are remaking Dark Shows with Johnny Depp. With the recent track record of bad remakes.

There was also a TV series called Forever Knight, about a vampire turning good who was a detective.

Always knew Alexander Skarsgard's derriere would bring the viewers!
True Blood is cables top scripted television, and HBOs top rated show.
Do you not like True Blood?
With numbers like this, it is HBO's new “Sopranos”, yet I have no interest in watching it.
Spoken like a person who has never, ever, ever watched a single episode of True Blood.
The second season was horrible, felt like porn as you said, but the season 3 pilot wasn't that bad actually.
