“World News with Diane Sawyer” Delivers Best Total Viewing and Demo Audience in a Month
“World News” Closes Total Viewing Gap with NBC by 50% Year to Year and 20% Week to Week
For the week of June 7th, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 6.93 million Total Viewers and a 1.6/7 among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. “World News” delivered its best total viewing and demo audiences in a month, posting 10,000 more Total Viewers and 30,000 more Adults 25-54 compared to the previous week.
“World News” narrowed the total viewing gap with “NBC Nightly News” to the smallest margin in a month, cutting the gap between the two programs by 20% week to week and 50% year to year. In addition, NBC’s lead among Adults 25-54 was 50% smaller compared to the same period last year.
Note: George Stephanopoulos anchored “World News” on Thursday. David Muir anchored on Friday. ABC’s weekly average is based on 3 days (Mon, Wed, Fri) due to the NBA Finals. NBC’s weekly average is based on 4 days (Mon-Tues, Thurs-Fri) due to NHL Finals. CBS is based on a 5 day average.
Last week “World News” continued its extensive coverage of the oil spill in the Gulf, with team coverage throughout the week from David Muir, Matt Gutman and Ryan Owens. On Tuesday, Diane Sawyer interviewed Thad Allen, the man in charge of the government response to the spill. “World News” also covered the mid-term primaries with reporting from Chief Political Correspondent George Stephanopoulos and Senior Congressional Correspondent Jonathan Karl. In addition, Diane Sawyer anchored “World News” from Los Angeles on Wednesday, where she interviewed California’s Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Jerry Brown.
