ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ Is The Only Morning Show To Gain Total Viewers

“GMA” Extends Both Demo and Total Viewing Advantages Over CBS Week to Week
For the week of June 7, ABC’s “Good Morning America” averaged 4.220 million Total Viewers and a 1.4/11 among Adults 25-54. “GMA” was the only morning program to experience Total Viewer growth week to week (+20,000) and year to year (+3%). Both NBC’s “Today” and CBS’ “Early Show” declined week to week, and also declined year to year. “GMA” increased its Adult 25-54 audience year to year (+2%) and was the only morning show to maintain its Adult 25-54 audience week to week.
“GMA” continues to reduce “Today’s” Demo and Total Viewing leads, shrinking the gap -16% & -18% respectively week to week. “GMA” also shrank “Today’s” leads year to year (Demo: -21% Total Viewing: -33%). This is the third straight week ABC has shrunk NBC’s weekly demo lead, and it’s the smallest gap since New Year’s week (week of 12/28/09).
In addition, “GMA’s” Adult 25-54 Demo lead (730,000) over the “Early Show” was +7% larger week to week. ABC expanded its Total Viewing advantage (1,770,000) over CBS by +2% week to week and +7% year to year.
The Emmy Award-winning morning news program, featuring the anchor team of Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion and Juju Chang, airs live Monday through Friday from 7:00-9:00 a.m., ET on the ABC Television Network. Jim Murphy is the senior executive producer and Tom Cibrowski is the executive producer of ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Please note: Robin Roberts was off Wednesday & Thursday 6/9/10 & 6/10/10 & broadcasted from South Africa for the first day of the World Cup on Friday, 6/11/10. The weekly averages for all three programs were based on four days the week of 5/31/10 due to Memorial Day, while the week of 6/7/10 was based on five days.
