New & Improved! Now with calendar week ratings comparisons too!

For the first week since Jay Leno's Tonight Show return, he was tied by David Letterman's Late Show, as both shows averaged a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating for the week of June 7-11. Coming off a week of repeats for both shows, Leno fell a tenth of a point and Letterman gained two tenths.

That put Leno's Tonight Show two tenths of a ratings point below Conan O'Brien's Tonight Show ratings trend, comparing the ratings for each show's fifteenth sequential week (note the first chart below).

It was 0.6 ratings points below the same calendar week of Conan's Tonight Show ratings last summer (note the second chart below). Interestingly, Letterman's Late Show had the same rating as it did for the week a year ago.

In related news, The Jay Leno Show’ Cancellation Payoff Is Complete.

The first chart shows the Leno/Conan ratings in the same sequential week of their run. (it's the same chart I have been doing for quite some time).

Conan/Letterman (2009-10) week 1 ended 6/5/09. Leno/Letterman (2010-) week 1 ended 3/5/10. The Conan/Letterman(2009-10) ratings do not include the final week the Tonight Show was in repeats prior to the Winter Olympics.

The second chart aligns the ratings weeks for the shows to their calendar weeks. Updated with dates in the X-axis.

  5. Jay and Dave neck and neck! Take a look at this hilarious video about Jay Leno. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5zP7_C2Fjk

Conan is unfunny. At least I have something to watch at 11:35 now.

Looks like viewership is down across the board from 2009 but Jay still rules! One night does not make Letterman a hero. Conan is gone and all is right in my world.

HAHAHAHA….funny….you do realize that Coco has been going on tour this entire time and now he has a show coming up on TBS right??? Jay Leno isn't funny and he hasn't been for years. The ratings proves this so yea…leno won the battle against Coco….but clearly he's making NBC lose the war!!! HAHAHA.

I'm really enjoying the new band. They are pretty darn good I must say!

One night? This is for the week, buddy boy. And how is Conan “gone” when he put together an extremely successful and popular comedy tour, and is ready to start a new show on TBS? Leno fans seem to be making some pretty desperate statements these days. I guess I don't blame them.

Well Leno fans, your last leg to stand on is now gone. No longer can you resort to the old “B…bu…but he's beating Letterman!” defense. How will you try and spin this now?

I wonder if Leno still has the “meh, if you don't get the ratings, they take you off the air” attitude that he had when Conan was getting pushed around by NBC? I wonder if he would be so understanding and sympathetic towards NBC's situation when they bring in Leno's replacement, which may be a possibility at this rate.

Any other off topic comments? Let me try one.

“Yeah, I really like the new curtains on the set. They look nice!”

If Jay is losing ratings it's all Conan's fault IMO. If Conan hadn't taken Jay's job away at the Tonight Show and then whined like a baby when NBC wanted to move him back to his old show Jay's ratings would probably be a lot higher. The villian to me in this whole mess is Conan.

  13. Do you really want to start this conversation? You're gonna get attacked for saying stuff like that.
    (Especially since it's not true)

  14. Even if it was true….Then Jay is as much as a villain as Conan, having done the exact same thing. So the villains would be both Jay and Conan

This has probably been asked before, but I wasn't here to catch it… what accounted for the Letterman spike in week 17?

  16. Week 17 ended 9/25/09, it was the “I'm being blackmailed because I was sleeping with a member of my staff” week for Letterman.

  17. MDHI

Actually, Bill, I believe Week 17 was the first week of the new season when he had President Obama on. I think the blackmail episode was early October.

I'm sick of talk shows in general they are all lame, now in the summer it's hard to get guest. I've ordered 200 channels, HBO and Showtime. I'm tired of the back stabling crap.

I suspect troll, as well. Nobody could be this stupid.
