Friday Cable Ratings: 16 Wishes Premieres Big; Party Down, Gravity Finales Finish Small

The premiere of the Disney Channel movie 16 Wishes shook up cable ratings on Friday, averaging 5.608 million viewers and a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating (although Disney cares more about the monster ratings it got for kids demos).

The season finales of Starz's Gravity and  Party Down both scored a 0.0 adults 18-49 ratings, and either show's average viewership for the hour could have been seated within Cowboys Stadium. There are plenty of shows I joke about having an infinite hype/ratings ratio, but in the case of Party Down, it's the truth.

If Party Down and Gravity gets renewed if will be the biggest shocking renewal ever

  2. Lord_Schadenfreude

Gravity is beyond awful, quite possibly the worst thing I've ever tried watching on television.

I watched the pilot. I decided not to watch anymore the season after that. I don't see that show getting renewed. Based on the ratings that is.

I would love for Party Down to get renewed though though half the cast are in other contracts right now so it doesn't bode well for it.

Not really. They are on a premium network. Ratings are not what drives the revenue there. I highly highly highly HIGHLY doubt either will be back, but this would hardly be the biggest shock ever.

Well for me it will be the biggest shocker because that's the lowest rating
for a first run scripted show I've ever seen on this site and I know that
Starz is a cable channel but can any channel continue to finance a show with
very few people statistically speaking watching? Is it worth the effort? So
that's why it would be a big shocker to me if they ever renew one or both of
    those shows.

Too bad for Party Down, I like that show.

  6. I would consider Dollhouse's 2nd season renewal much more shocking than if PD was brought back. It's cheap to make, and while it doesn't do that well it doesn't terribly for a Starz show. I think their blood & sand nonsense does well though (had a lot of $$ put toward marketing — something Party Down never saw). I don't expect renewal though. It's a shame cause it's a good show.

Consider me one of those Party Down viewers, however, I watch it on delay as it's on Friday nights. I'm sure there are millions and millions of us out there. -:) The show is fun however and Jane Lynch's return and interaction with Megan Mullaly was very funny.

  8. Shame. I like Gravity. It had some bad moments in the early episodes, but ended up pretty good as it went forward. Finale was decent too with a nice cliffhanger.

How many subcribers does Starz actually have? Anyone know?

  9. Starz has about 22 million as of our latest numbers:

Regardless, those Party Down, and Gravity numbers are pitiful.

  10. I like Party Down, and at least brought some recognition to Starz. But for the life of me i will never understand why they greenlit Gravity: i watched the whole season because it was like watching a train wreck. It's so bad it almost performance art! Eric Schaeffer spent A LOT of time on the show with intestinal problems, or talking about his prostate, or anal masturbation, or getting a colonoscopy, or having diharrea…it's effing unbelievable, gross, offputting, not at all edgly or wacky, or just toilet-humorous…it's just horrible. Like this whole mess of a series. It's an istant cult classic, i'm afraid.
