Syndicated Top 25: Oprah Winfrey Show Has Lowest Ratings Week In Its 24 Year History

Categories: '

Written By

June 29th, 2010

In reruns, The Oprah Winfrey Show turned in the weakest ratings performance in the show's 24-year history, sinking 23% from last year at this time (reruns vs. reruns) to an all-time series low 3.0 household rating.

Judge Judy was up 13% from last year to a 4.3 rating and ranked #3 among all shows in syndication in household ratings (behind Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, but ahead of Two and a Half Men).  Judge Judy averaged slightly more than 6-million viewers per show or about 2-million more than Oprah. This marks the 12th time in the past 14 weeks that Judy has topped Oprah.

The Ellen Degeneres Show was out of the top 25, averaging 2.460 million viewers and a 1.8 HH rating for the week.

Legend of the Seeker Fans: It's repeats from here on out for LotS until news of another season or it disappears from syndication at the end of its current run. The updated table for Season two’s ratings is still below the normal syndicated top 25 table.

Friday Night Smackdown Fans: It fell just out of the top 25, averaging 2.850 million viewers for the week and a 1.8 household rating.

Please note that the syndicated weekly results are delayed versus normal reporting.  While we get the broadcast and cable ratings for the prior Monday-Sunday period every Tuesday, there is an extra week of lag time with the syndicated ratings and these numbers are not for last week, but for the week before last (in other words, the WWE Friday Night Smackdown! is for June 11 not June 18).

Glad to see Oprah hitting series lows.

  2. erty

    Gosh, 'Friends' is still around?

  3. CiCi217

she can't even beat an old Everybody Loves Raymond? WTH

  4. EddieWil

I have one question, who cares????? She only has one season left and she has her own network launching in January and worth billions. Can anyone really say anything to her? Please stop bashing Oprah every week by making her the headline on summer syndication ratings. When He final season starts in September then temm me something.

  5. beredy

Having a talk show for 25 years (1/4 of a century!) is an accomplishment for itself. With that many years, it was only a matter of time when the general audience would start feeling the Oprah fatigue. The show is still a Top 10 syndicated show.

  6. What is the big deal? All or most of Oprah's shows are repeats right now. Why doesn't someone mention that? I check her shows each day and don't care to watch the repeats. I suspect others don't either. For all the haters, Oprah will be successful and rich, despite you.

  7. cath

Oprah was not only in reruns but they had run some of them fairly recently. I don't normally watch Oprah during the school year but I had seen some of those before. Or they seem like repeats. How many times has she had Kirstie Alley and Raquel Welsh on recently? Were they all repeats? The financially troubled people on Wednesdays? The Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz interviews, timed to coincide with their movie?

I believe Judge Judy is repeat proof. Our station runs one repeat and one new or one new and one repeat in tandem. Don't know. Don't care. Doesn't matter. Watch anyway. Something to watch while cooking.

  8. informedTV

No BIG surprise here! Oprah's 2009-2010 season was mostly made up of celebrity interviews based on books or movies or headlines, the kind of thing that becomes old very quickly. 6 months later who cares…

The irony for you die hard fans of QUEEN O, the billionnaire is that she made fun of Phil Donahue during his last years as a talk show host, she made this public comment: ” When it's time for me to go, I certainly won't prolong my show to the point of being this ridiculous” (or I'm a lot smarter than Phil D.). I guess it's different when it's you and you have to let go of all those millions every week. Even if she is moving to her OWN cable network, there is no way her income is going to surpass her prime time talk show on ABC, I don't care what anybody says.

  9. I see that Dr. Phil has fallen off the precipice of the charts into something approaching oblivion. About time that hypocritical moralistic phony got what he deserved. Just read his life story–he is, in reality, almost a stereotype of the good ole boy, and i generally don't believe in stereotypes. He does, I have to admit, play the upright cultural conservative to a T. But it doesn't seem to be doing him much good these days. I think people are finally wising up. Lo, how the mighty have fallen!

  10. informedTV, Oprah doesn't have a “major network talk show on ABC”, she's syndicated.

  11. informedTV

ABC is the network that has bought her 'syndicated show' for the last 24 years….

Most people have ABC affiliates network stations to watch on TV, many do not have all the other cable stations available. My point, a major network is showing her syndicated talk show on their afternoon schedule, guaranteeing her a larger audience. There are only a few talk shows syndicated or not broadcast by ABC, NBC, CBS or Fox.

  12. You have no idea what you're talking about. The ABC owned and operated stations in the big cities buy Oprah, so a lot of people see her on an ABC station. In other parts of the country, the stations that buy her show might be affiliated with other networks, or none at all. That's what syndicated means.

  13. informedTV

repeating ****My point, a major network is showing her syndicated talk show on their afternoon schedule, guaranteeing her a larger audience. *****

You are talking about what syndication means, I am talking about a major US TV Network buying her syndicated talk show for their afternoon programming…. and the effect this has on her weekly ratings in the USA. Just like CBS bought Dr. Phil and Judge Judy, FOX bought Dr. OZ, and so on. Basically it's not a coincidence that these 4 syndicated shows do better than all the other similar afternoon syndicated TV shows, WHICH ARE NOT BROADCAST ON CBS, ABC, NBC, or FOX.

  14. douchebag

  15. Oprah seems to be the big news.

She said season 25 will knock your socks off so she might do many big things and keep the viewers you never know

and stop whining because she gives away a lot of money. She worked endlessly and got rich. I am not rich and I don't hate her guts. Be happy for someone's success instead of whining and if you have to whine blow your head off because life ain't worth it.

Looks like some people are enourmously jealous of a successful woman

  16. yankeesrj12

and it does better than a new episode of 100 Questions on NBC. :p
