BET CELEBRATES BEST QUARTER AMONG VIEWERS IN NETWORK HISTORY
Network Continues Ratings Stride with Record Setting Specials, Original Series, Movies, and Acquisitions marking the 7th consecutive Quarter to Post Year- Over- Year Viewership Gains
NEW YORK—June 30, 2010—BET continues its historic ratings momentum and closes the second quarter of 2010 with a bang. According to Nielsen Media Research, BET finished the quarter with an average of 543,000 total viewers, making it the highest performing quarter among viewers in network history.
Key highlights from the quarter include:
- This quarter marks the 7th consecutive quarter to post year-over-year viewership gains and is the 3rd consecutive quarter to post viewership gains versus the prior quarter;
- BET maintains its rank among cable’s top 20 ad-supported networks among adults 18-49 (total day);
- BET remains the #1 cable network among blacks 18-49 for 23 consecutive quarters and among blacks 18-34 for 42 consecutive quarters (total day);
- The network ranks among the top 5 cable growth networks among black households and among the top 15 ad-supported cable growth networks among total viewers.
Contributing to these gains, the BET AWARDS ’10 live premiere on Sunday June 27 set the record as the #1 cable awards show on television among adults 18-49 for the fifth consecutive year; #1 awards show on television among black viewers for the sixth consecutive year; and garnered 7.4 million total viewers, while the BET RED CARPET SHOW was the #1 evening telecast on Sunday June 27 among adults 18-49 drawing in 2.5 million total viewers and the BET AWARDS ‘10 POST SHOW garnered 4 million total viewers making it the #1 late night telecast on June 27 among adults 18-49 according to Nielson Media Research. The BET AWARDSfranchise is the #1 program in cable television history among black households.
The network also set records with its original series. The MO’NIQUE SHOW remains the #1 late night variety show on television (4Q09-2Q10) with an average of 663,000 total viewers in this quarter. All 2Q10 primetime original series are among the top 20 original series in BET history, and all improved their respective season to date time-slots by double-digits. THE FAMILY CREWS ranks as the #1 new original series on BET season to date and the #1 Sunday cable reality series each week among black households. TINY & TOYA 2 was among the top original series in BET history. SUNDAY BEST 3 was the #1 Sunday original series on cable among blacks (1.2 million black viewers) for this quarter and on June 20, SUNDAY BEST 3’s season became BET’s #1 original series telecast to date in 2010 and the #1 telecast in the franchise’s history.
2Q10 is the 6th consecutive quarter that 106 & PARK has posted year-over-year gains, and it marks the #1 second quarter performance ever (746K Viewers). 106 & PARK maintains its position as cable’s #1 music variety series for the 12th consecutive quarters among adults 18-49. Additionally, SPRING BLING ’10 was the most watched SPRING BLING performance in 2 years (641,000 viewers) and enjoyed double-digit gains versus SPRING BLING ‘09. BOBBY JONES GOSPEL maintains its position as the #1 gospel variety series on television year after year.
Acquisitions continue to deliver significant results to the network’s ratings success. EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS stunt 6/14-6/18 marked the highest rated week of the year in daytime with 521,000 total viewers; Movie premieres in 2Q10 garnered 891,000 total viewers in prime and weekend day.
