Final Week of 2010 FIFA World Cup: Semifinals, 3rd Place and Final Matches

The final week of the 2010 FIFA World Cup begins today in South Africa with the first of two semifinal matches. Ian Darke and John Harkes will call the Netherlands vs. Uruguay from Cape Town on ESPN. Pre-match coverage begins at 2 p.m. Martin Tyler and Efan Ekoku will call Germany vs. Spain Wednesday, July 7, from Durban in a rematch of the 2008 European Championship that Spain won 1-0. Studio host Mike Tirico and analyst Roberto Martinez also will be in Durban.

Harkes and Darke will work the 3rd place match between the semifinal losers on Saturday, July 10, in Port Elizabeth. The match will air on ABC with coverage starting at 2 p.m.

Tyler and Ekoku will call the 2010 World Cup Final Sunday, July 11, on ABC from Soccer City in Johannesburg. The one-hour pre-match show starts at 1:30 p.m. (Note: Tyler, Ekoku and ESPN executive producer Jed Drake will be available for a media conference call Thursday, July 8, at 11:30 a.m. to discuss the Final. Call-in information will be distributed Tuesday afternoon.)  In addition to ESPN’s roster of studio hosts and analysts, Harkes will join Bob Ley at Soccer City for pre-match, halftime and post-match analysis.

ESPN Radio’s lead commentator team of JP Dellacamera and Tommy Smyth will call both semifinal matches and the World Cup Final. (Glenn Davis and Kyle Martino will call the 3rd place match.) ESPN 3D will televise all four remaining World Cup matches, and coverage also will be available on ESPN3.com, ESPN Mobile TV and ESPN Deportes.
