I'd predicted that the upcoming Starz miniseries would probably get better reviews than ratings simply because Ian McShane is in it. But count at least one dissenter to that thinking, my loving friend Mo Ryan at the Chicago Tribune. According to Mo, with "Pillars" they have managed to do the unthinkable: make Ian McShane ineffective.
Water running uphill, the sun rising in the West, McShane unable to project his usual charismatic presence: These are all thing I did not think were possible. But the sloppy, choppy "Pillars" has rendered the actor ineffective. And that's just the worst of its crimes.
