Caprica RETURNS TO SYFY IN JANUARY 2011

New York, New York – July 21, 2010 – Syfy has announced the highly-anticipated return of critically-acclaimed series Caprica. The second half of season one premieres in January 2011 (date TBA), and kicks off with a thrilling pace as the citizens of Caprica deal with the chaotic aftermath of the mid-season finale’s harrowing events.

In season 1.5, the once idyllic world of Caprica – as well as life across the colonies – falls prey to an explosive chain reaction of consequences set off by the characters’ many questionable actions in the season’s first half. Tensions rise, power shifts and the line between reality and the virtual world becomes increasingly blurred as everyone struggles to learn – and conquer – the stakes in this volatile setting. As the season races towards its stunning conclusion, events of each episode lay the framework for the inevitable (and brutal) clash between the newly-created Cylon race and their human creators.

An all-new trailer for season 1.5 will premiere at Caprica’s Comic-Con panel on July 23, and before landing on Syfy.com, it will be available exclusively on Microsoft’s Zune Marketplace on Xbox LIVE and Windows PCs through the Zune PC software available for free at www.zune.net. (July 26).

Caprica stars Eric Stoltz (Daniel Graystone), Paula Malcomson (Amanda Graystone), Esai Morales (Joseph Adama), Polly Walker (Sister Clarice Willow), Alessandra Torresani (Zoe Graystone), Magda Apanowicz (Lacy) and Sasha Roiz (Sam Adama).

Caprica is a prequel to the award-winning series Battlestar Galactica. The series is from Universal Cable Productions, and is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick. Jonas Pate serves as co-executive producer and director.

Universal Cable Productions creates quality content across multiple media platforms for USA, Syfy and other networks.  A leader in innovative and critically acclaimed programming, UCP is the studio behind USA's Royal Pains, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Psych, In Plain Sight, Covert Affairs and Facing Kate, as well as Syfy's Eureka, Warehouse 13 and Caprica. The studio also produced the long-running series Monk and Battlestar Galactica. UCP is a division of NBC Universal.

Syfy is a media destination for imagination-based entertainment. 1. Caprica is so “meh.”

  2. Brad

So a 10 month delay between Half Seasons? Wow. Dumb move.

  3. Wow Syfy, Wow. I thought it was returning in September… then now its January 2011 (TBD on exact date). Wow…. i for one am not a fan of all the “half season breaks” you take but this is ridiculous. its almost a FREAKING YEAR to get ONE FULL SEASON OUT. Pathetic. Your marketing and programming department is really starting to piss me the frak off.

A ten month break can't be a good sign.

But a BSG spin-off still makes absolutely no sense to me.

I'm not surprised at this, actually. We knew that both Sanctuary (which got a full 22 eps this season) and SGU were coming back in October and unless they moved Caprica to a night other than Tuesday, that meant it was getting bumped. I'm also not surprised because out of the three, it was the only one not renewed before it ended it's run of new episodes.

As for the idea of a BSG spinoff, I forget where I read it, but even Caprica fails, there are talks of another spin off to replace it.

  6. Will the actors still be under contract when the show ends its 1st season?

  7. DonJ1973

I watched the 1st 10 episodes and enjoyed it, but now I have to assume the show is as good as dead. Plus, if SyFy is waiting to see the ratings for season 1.5, your talking about possibly waiting until Fall 2011 or early 2012 for a 2nd season to make air. That's just not feasible at all. All the creative team will not want to wait that long. There is no way the principal actors (Esai Morales, Eric Stoltz, Paul Malcomson) are going to wait on their butts this long. They will have to move on to other projects.

  8. I tried to watch Caprica, but it just didn't interest me. No likable characters, moved at a snail's pace. I really loved BSG, but the spinoff is just not for me.

  9. DonJ1973

I just remembered that Battlestar Galactica season 4 had a similar long hiatus too. 4.0 finished in June of 2008 and 4.5 premiered in January 2009. Roughly 7 months there.

Since SyFy is promoting season 1.5 at Comic Con, I have to assume they haven't quite given up on the show yet. Now I'm curious to see what SyFy's Fall schedule is like. All I know is SGU and Sanctuary are on the menu. I wonder if Eureka will stay on the schedule for it's 20 episode season.

  11. Jay77

I'm thinking that, barring a serious ratings uptick when it returns, these next ten episodes will be the final episodes for the show. A ten-month break isn't exactly a vote of confidence.

  12. melbye

If they renew this show they should do 13 episodes seasons, since they clearly don't have the room for 20 episode seasons

  13. cimmer

Wow. So much for Caprica. Maybe they're hoping that when if finally comes back people (other than me LOL) will watch it because they'll think it's an all new show and maybe the ratings will go up? I understand Sanctuary and SGU are coming back in the Fall but that's only taking up one day of the week – they can't move Caprica anywhere else? The schedule is chock full of what exactly?

  14. marcelrochester

Relatively acclaimed I guess, but on MC
    BSG S3 94, S4 85
Caprica 72. Only 2/20 reviews gave it above a B+.

That delay was a result of the writers strike though. Production had to be halted on the second half of season four because the scripts weren't finished.

  16. Josh

First SyFy committed to September. Now January.

Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on SyFy.

  17. Maggie

It is absolutely stupid to make us wait until Jan 2011 for the continuation of Caprica. Whose idea was that? No one will be interested if you do that. Continue the series now or you will lose your audience. Dumb move!

  19. alex

they won’t lose their audience. they are much better at this than you.

  20. they wound up bringing back Caprica early, and it has been on since October 5. Ratings are down.
