CBS Cancels ‘The Bridge‘

CBS has yanked Canadian import The Bridge from its schedule after only two weeks (and three episodes).   While that's hardly a surprise after this past Saturday's 0.3 rating with adults 18-49,  CBS never thought much of the show anyway. It wasn't like its ratings were so bad on Friday that they shuffled it off to Saturday. They shipped it to Saturdays to begin with.

The Saturday slot will be replaced with Cold Case reruns.  Repeats of  The Good Wife will air Sunday nights at 10pm through mid-August.

No surprise there, a 0.3 is something CBS could not stomach even for a Saturday run, it has the potential to go 0.0 if they kept it on air

  2. tchuu

maybe CBS is bitter that CTV aired it a couples months before they did…
SATURDAY C'MON?! that's just a slap in the face

I actually thought the 1st 3 episodes (Pilot was 2 episodes) was not bad at all. Dumping it to Saturday's and not promoting it, plus delaying airing the episodes almost 1 year was a sign they care about this show at all. Didn't CTV already renew this for a 2nd season?

  4. I'm not sure why CBS is still airing re-runs of Cold Case. they cancelled that show so its not worth it.

  5. I actually watched the first season on CTV and I thought it was a well written show. Certainly better than a lot of shows that are “hits”. Hopefully CTV will still make a second season for Canada and we get to see what happens to the oxy addicted cop shot in a traffic stop…

I'm mostly disappointed we didn't get a play on words in the title. “The Bridge” collapses or crumbles or maybe falls down? Eh, maybe it doesn't work so well.

  7. Katie: because they already paid for them so it's “free” content that they think will rate better than what they were airing

  8. touche'. it works well on the site but people looking in the search engines to find out whether The Bridge was canceled won't be looking for “Bridge collapses”.

On the other hand, I'm not sure anyone will be searching for “The Bridge canceled” either so there probably would've been no harm in going the “Canada's Bridge Falls Down in the U.S.” route.

  9. The power of lack of marketing. If you don't build it, they will not come. Duh!

  10. I fear an escalation of international TV tensions.

I understand the US has gone to TV DefCon 3 awaiting the Canadian response.

The early episodes were sluggish. The series did get better in later episodes.

  12. Well hell, I thought it was a good show.

    Someone bought the bridge.

Serves CBS right for premiering a show on Saturday nights. They could've put it on Fridays at 9 instead of moving Medium back there temporarily and 48 Hours Mystery to Fridays at 8.

  15. SVUnCI

CTV renewed this show before CBS even “premiered” it.

  16. SVUnCI

CTV might not sell anymore shows to CBS, it could be the downfall of CBS.

  17. SVUnCI

Well, at least I don;t have to choose between Persons “Unwatched” & The Bridge on Saturdays, it'll be Persons Unknown all summer, plus I can still watch The Bridge online.

    I called it!

To redeem themselves, the Canadians should work on a Night Heat DVD release. And maybe a remake. Jeff Wincott can't be that old, he could take Sean McCann's place (Lt Giambone!) if his stellar movie career allows it.

  20. This is not surprising, but disappointing nonetheless. The Bridge starts out pretty slow but it gets a lot better by the end of the season.

Hopefully CTV can keep the show alive even without CBS backing.
