Countdown with Keith Olbermann saw its lowest viewing average in over two years, since April 2008. And while Keith was out for a few days during the month, that's pretty customary in the summer, just like it was last summer. Only the numbers were higher then.
Below is a list of low weeks going back to the beginning of 2008 sorted from lowest to highest. Last week's is marked in red, but for anyone who has trouble picking that up, it's the third row from the top.

It's obvious Keith…. THEY WANT MORE SPECIAL COMMENTS !!111!!!
[And I don't know...maybe read to them all once in a while..]
Nothing is obvious to Keith. Except it's Bush's fault.
It's obvious he's going to cry when he reads this !1!!!
[Look at his pic above..he's doing all can to hold it back !11!!]
Can't look I'm eating.
Keith O plays a very important and essential role in our plurastic society. He represents an important point of view that needs to be heard in the mass media. He counters Fox News, and for that reason only, I say “Rave on, Keith O.”
You said it I didn't. In the sense that I don't like the echo chamber effect that having only one station for news is the media's fault. They are so caught up in trying to think for everyone. I would watch others if they didn't as you say “Rave On”.
Come on, Jane. “Rave On” is an expression. Like the Buddy Holly song, “Rave On” and like the Van Morrison song, “Rave On, John Donne.” It doesn't literally mean rave on!
Don't kid yourself. You're glued to Fox News. You have a political ideology and you watch the news station that reinforces your political ideology. You don't want that ideology challenged.
If you mean what you say, which I doubt, watch The Rachel Maddow Show. She doesn't “rave on” in the literal sense. She's very articulate, witty, and charming.
Wow lots of cable news posts for us newsies today thanks RS. : -)
When you consider this happened all while CNNs numbers remained quite low for the departing Brown's show, I think it is troubling for Keith O and MSNBC. I don't think he knows how to exist in a political world where his party is in control of both the executive and legislative branches of our government.
He was much more comfortable being a voice of opposition to “the man” and when that situation no longer existed he began to just flail around more and more ineffectively. I think his increased anger at FOX news is emblematic of this. Criticizing their hosts and pointing out their errors (even if he is correct) ultimately comes off as repetitive and jealous given his place in the ratings.
Not really glued to anything. I have lots on the dvr but I don't have time to watch all day news. My view of is sort of Maddow is sort of Rosie and I really mean Rosie. My ideology is right down the middle. I don't sit and judge anyone. I might poke a little but it's all meant in humor.
It's easy for KO to be repetitive when the subject of his commentary continues their staunch record of hilarious inaccuracy, occasional if not blatant racism, searing hot chicks with air between their ears trying to talk, and, oh yeah, Glenn “I'll See You Later… oh wait…” Beck. Hard (and unreasonable) to deny which side is holding the upper hand in this country's rational discourse. It's like I say about Fox “News” ratings: An afterschool poetry reading will attract a couple prisses; an afterschool knifefight between two special ed candidates will attract a couple hundred mouthbreathing paste-eaters. Can Fox really be proud of that? Disappointing to see the right-leaning commentary here on articles such as this; I was hoping for more common sense.
How were his numbers when he had a guest host?
Brevity is not my strong suit but I will try….
Are there not shows devoted to discussions of media on TV? Does he need to do it? How about 3 politicians as the worst persons of the day each day?
Larry O had the numbers over 1 million last evening which betters Keith O's July average.
The common link for common viewers is Drudge. Guess I''ll go wash the paste off. By the way love Beck.
Amazing how you so quickly are able to paint with a very broad brush and label everyone. So much for “rationale discourse” on your part. You practice just what espouse to be disgusted by. As KO would say, “Have you no shame sir (or maddam)?”
I wish you would rather have been intellectually honest and just said you love the big KO because he vents the hatred you have inside and reinforces your view of politics and the world. At least that would have been honest. Shame!
Keith, just do the same thing to your viewers you do to the children in your neighborhood: Put on your clown-makeup and get into your polkadot outfit, go to Costco and get a bunch of Milky Way Minis, and then invite everyone to your van!
Come on, Jane. “Rave On” is an expression. Like the Buddy Holly song, “Rave On” and like the Van Morrison song, “Rave On, John Donne.” It doesn't literally mean rave on!
Sure it does, especially the Van. If you want a putative modern figurative nullification, try here, under “What Ever.” It may take a while.
I'm sure his ratings will go up once the November elections start up. Along with everyone else's.
You have to wonder if this has something to do with his hissy fit and flouncing off (and subsequently apologizing and coming back to) Daily Kos. If he loses the KosKids, who does he have left? Even though he later apologized and came back, he probably alienated a lot of people. Even lefties are beginning to get sick of his schtick, and realize it does not help their cause.
Rachel Maddow is the lesbian female version of Keith Olbermann. Annoyingly sarcastic and completely pretentious. The only reason they have a job is because of people like you who will watch anybody, just as long as they aren't on FOX News. And no, I don't watch FOX News, so your ad hominems and straw men arguments don't apply.
I'm glad Olbermann's ratings in the tank. He has no business talking about politics and should go back to talking about baseball. He thought he could get ratings by being a permanent contrarian and people are tired of him. That, and people are starting to wake up and realize that Obama was a huge mistake, and they don't want people like Olbermann mindlessly chatting away about how great Obama is.
