Rick's demo must have MSNBC worried….

    [Oh yea... FIRST !!!1!!]

  2. ap076

    Hey Uni

I am surprised Brown is still allowing the network to report his show under her name. I was shocked to see he was up by 200,000 in total viewers c/w yesterday (no accounting for taste). Although I had CNN on when I got home today (broken remote…..ugh see below) and Sanchez was talking with a CNN white house reporter brought up a CNN immigration poll, the reporter pointed out to Rick that the poll was about legal immigrants and Rick ended the discussion without a goodbye or anything. Such a tool.

-Ugh, my 5+ year old cable/DVR remote was no longer working when I got home (yes, I changed the batteries) I called the company for a box reset and we tried to reset the codes to no avail. My cheap “joke” Jumbo 12 inch remote surprise, surprise does not work and the $80.00 universal remote I bought 2 years ago is charging but is honestly above my tech abilities. So I have to get over to the cable company during their hours by taking two different branches of the “T” across “town” tomorrow or Friday.

Laura I is doing a very nice job in holding up Bill O's numbers. She is on L. King tonight maybe the old boy will be up to 750,000 for a change of pace.

Maddow's audience continues to abandon Chris Hayes could he go below 550,000 total? Probably not as everybody will likely bump up (and not in a nose to the key type of way) given the news out of AZ today. I think Hannity (2.5 Million +?) and Sanchez (700,000 + ?) may get the biggest bumps for very different reasons, obviously.

If it's cable equipment(?) make them drive out and replace it. A couple years ago the batteries went out on my remote (I think). I called CS and told them the “9″ button didn't work. I just left the remote on the front porch and they replaced it, no problem. Okay I lied just a little there, but if yours doesn't work they should be willing to drop off a new one for you.

  5. ap076

I tried and you would think that because it was a small neighborhood in a city Comcast would spin by and drop it off and I even said I would be willing to stay home to catch them plus I live in a 18 unit brownstone but no. I could have thrown the disability card but I don't do that lightly.

So in all of Boston there is like one that is T accessible and in a neighborhood I am familiar/comfortable with. I may splurge and take a cab. I am totally missing the replay button my remote but am using commercials to post.

  6. apt, couldn't agree with you more but I assume for differing reasons.
Chris Hayes is a sycophantic goof and it is painful to watch him slather praise upon his MSNBC buddies. Hardly surprising that he managed to drop Maddow’s ratings into the toilet.
Full disclosure – I despise Maddow’s show but occasionally watch to see how they are spinning particular issues.

I am new to the cable news ratings evaluation. Why is FOX News so far ahead? Are there that many more republican/conservative viewers out there? If so, why do the democrats rule right now? It seems like all the AM talk radio shows are all conservative as well.

  8. mmmars

Fox and conservative media are ahead because conservatives tend to be better educated and more well read. They evaluate issues rather than call names and repeat jargon.

  9. TheBoss1

mmmars, a big fat bullcrapola to your comment, which is utterly ridiculous. LIberals are much more educated and well read than conservatives. Modern-day conservatives have a distrust for university education. The days of the William F. Buckley conservative are long gone. The modern-day conservative is anti-intellectual. On a personal level, I'll put my education and intellect against any modern-day conservative.

  10. janedoesays

Laura is only on one more day then Juan W. takes the reins. Not crazy about him but he can manage the guests.

  11. bnbishop

Come on Boss the average liberal has a third grade education and is controled by you havard educated elite. Yes Libs (the ones in control) are very well educated. But, you have done a good job of herding the sheep

  12. ap076

Well guys I don't think you have given Jim a very fair answer to his question but perhaps an accurate indication of the controversy the subject will possibly raise here.

Hey Jim, I've read your posts over on the TV side and I think you have asked the million dollar question and perhaps simultaneously opened Pandora's box. I am sure there are entire courses at universities devoted to this subject in either communication or political science curriculums.

To start the whole thing off you will have folks on this site who will argue that FOX is not in any way conservative but is actually the center and that the rest of the media is so liberal it just appears conservative. I think that although they do have counter argument on many of their shows, the network operates from a conservative editorial stance and hosts and if we are calling a “spade a spade” it is center to really mostly right in it's approach.

I'm not really sure if MSNBC even claims anymore to be anything but very liberal and progressive in it's commentary programming. They had a past with some center and right wing hosts but they abandoned that awhile ago (TheBoss1 could speak to that history better than me). CNN likes to claim they occupy the proper center, but most conservatives, and this liberal, would disagree. They are center to really mostly left, especially with a former Democratic governor taking over the 8pm slot.

So why is FOX is successful? One of the arguments I hear from fellow liberals is that “well, conservatives like to watch TV because its easy and you know we so often get our information from varied sources like reading….”. I hate this argument so much. I smack of liberal elitism which is what so many conservatives hate about so many liberals and it is insulting to conservatives. I mean, explain The Weekly Standard, The Washington Times, etc…

Conservatives will often say the liberals have NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, PBS, etc. and we only have FOX and I guess one could turn that argument around and say Bingo, thats it all the conservatives flock to FOX. But I like to keep apples with apples and oranges with oranges. The cable news numbers should be looked at separately and FOX rocks them. You could combine MSNBC and CNNs numbers and they are still not 1/2 of FOX's.

I think more liberals watch FOX than people commonly think. First of all, the power of Bill O at 8pm can not be denied. I think he is just enough of “all things to all nations” that it clicks with many and sets the tone for many to stay tuned for the night. He does a good job of bringing other FOX talent onto his show. The network owes him plenty.

By the same token I really think Keith O is hurting MSNBC at 8pm. He sets a lousy tone for the evening. While Bill O starts out with a bang on FOX at 8pm and then it settles down a little for Hannity at 9pm, Keith O starts things out at one level at MSNBC and sometimes Maddow holds the numbers and sometimes she even improves. You need better at 8pm.

The real problem with MSNBC is not the message, as I still feel there are plenty out there receptive to the message, but how lazy they are at delivering it. They create no viewer loyalty whatsoever. FOX fans will come on here and even if their numbers were down they would be just as proud to proclaim that they were viewers. MSNBC just does not create that passion. They are a lazy network. Hardball aired at 5pm and 7pm, given the numbers it gets, give me a break !!!!
Countdown aired at 8pm and then repeated at 10pm (although that is about to change), too “Keithy” for my blood. And yes the prison weekends. FOX just fights for it even on the weekends, even at 3am eastern with Red Eye.

    Just some thoughts.

  13. bnbishop

    keep it pithy

  14. janedoesays

The public is not anti-intellectual.We are anti-change-the-constitution-to-fit-your-ideology. We are anti-CLoward-Piven. The “community organizer in chief” is trying to sell a load crap. Nobody is buying it anymore. Not really an intellectual thing. It is always about the real future for my kids. At this rate, nothing will be left.

  15. janedoesays

Need to say one last thing on this. No matter how much university education you have, is no guarantee of common sense.

  16. If you take drugs, or you are in prison, you will most likely vote for a democrat!
If you would save a turtle and abort a baby, think porn is art, won't let people pray at football game and think this country should ignore the belief and trust in God this country was built on, you too will most likely vote for a democtat!
If you believe we should raise taxes, back the illegals over hard working American citizens, keep spending money we don't have, then you should watch FOX and learn how to be an Anerican!

  17. TheBoss1

bnbishop and all you other right-wingers … let me tell you that no conservative better embodies anti-intellectualism than Sarah Palin … she's a joke and she's a hero amongst you fine folks! And, your other hero, Glenn Beck, has to go to a chalkboard, for goodness sakes, to write down his points nice.and.slowly for you fine folks to follow along and understand.

Talk about herding the sheep … it's what right-wing masterminds like Lee Atwater and Karl Rove did for years. Here's their modus operandi … keep.the.message.simple.stupid … repeat it time and time and time again … use fear … name call … race-bait … demonize …….. It's the right-wing playbook that has won them elections.

  18. TheBoss1

jane, anytime you want to sit down and discuss the Constitution, give me a call. I hope it won't be a one-sided conversation.

And, Raymond, for anyone to take you seriously, you have to come up with much better rabble than that.

  19. TheBoss1

ap076, I always enjoy reading your (usually) well-informed posts and points-of-view. But, when I came across this comment, “By the same token I really think Keith O is hurting MSNBC at 8pm” I had to do a double-take. How does having the highest rated show on MSNBC, both in total viewers and in the demos, hurt the network? That doesn't pass the common sense test. I had to scratch my head on that one………

  20. Really? Look at the statistics!
