Travis Yanan Predicts Despite the Piddling Lead-in from ‘Chuck,’ ‘The Event‘ Will Premiere to Very Good Ratings

Our friend 'Travis Yanan' has a long post up on FOX's Lone Star and NBC's The Event which will both air at 9pm on Mondays.   Despite the headline and the blurb below, it's not about Chuck, and Travis doesn't have much love for The Event.  He's rooting for Lone Star Though.

Show Travis some love: read his post, leave a comment, etc.

And I have little doubt that, despite the piddling lead-in that Chuck will be, The Event will premiere to very good ratings. And that'll probably continue for a few weeks. But it's unsustainable without character.

  1. I'll be watching both The Event and Lonestar. The Event, because I'm actually interested in watching it and Lonestar mainly for Adrianne Palicki.

  2. The Event is the most promising new show this fall. So the ratings will be great. I just hope it sustains interest as Heroes did. (But I'd actually like The Event to be enjoyable for more than 23 episodes.) Lol

The only NBC shows i'm concerned with right now are Chuck and Undercovers. The ratings of anything else on NBC can plummet for all I care as long those two shows do well.

  4. I love how this show looks. The promo is amazing. The best show this season in my opinion. I think NBC will do great on Mondays with The Event and Chase. They both look great.

  5. I'll be watching House & Lonestar live & my 10 o clock show will be either The Event, Chuck, HIMYM/Mike & Molly, Men of a Certain age or something else depending on what's on cable Mondays.

I think most people are going to be pretty weary of getting on board with network serials after this past year. I don't think The Event will premiere nearly as high as FF or V did last year, and we know what happened to all those millions in the subsequent weeks.

I think NBC will still come 4th on Mondays but not a distant 4th like this year.

The Event looks like it could be this coming seasons next FlashFoward. Yes it will begin with huge ratings, but the question is can they keep people tuning in week to week? I don't trust NBC so its up in the air to me right now.

    Monday Night Football RULES !!!

I really hope The Event does well, it looks really promising and after loosing Lost and Heroes it would be nice to see it do well, though I do have the amazing Fringe! I predict it could premiere to a 4.0+ but I doubt it, at worst I think it will hit 2.5 ish, but I think its more likely to hit a 2.8-3.0+, hopefully. I think Chase will bomb though.

  11. The Event looks like it could be good…but its trailer is very vague about what it is about. Lonestar looks very complex and dramatic…so both can be very good shows.

Lonestar will likely be older-skewing if it's just a slow-paced soap opera. I think it will initially skew young on its premiere, around a 4.2 demo with 12 million viewers, but it will decrease in the demo and slowly increase in total viewers as the weeks go by. I think The Event will premiere huge, around a 4.5 demo with 15 million viewers.

Good news for The Event, it was picked up by a terristrial channel (like broadcast) in the UK, Channel 4. It will premiere just weeks or a week after its US broadcast. It at least looks like a potential international hit, though I guess its still hard to tell.

The Event has gotten very good early buzz. I read that it screened very well at Comic Con over the weekend and most of the comments were very positive. The Showrunner is Evan Katz, who worked on 24 for the last few seasons, and he IMO is a solid writer/producer. This is probably my most anticipated show of the Fall.

“The Event” has a terrific cast. I wish Blair Underwood would become a movie star already. Especially after his terrific work in Gabriel Byrnes show “In Treatment.” I loved the 1st season. It made Mia Wachoski? can't spell her name. Now she's all over the place. It also probably was the reason Michelle Forbes got that nice juicy role in season 2 of HBO's other show “True Blood.”

  16. The only new shows this season that I am really looking forward to are The Event, Hawaii Five-O and Mr. Sunshine… which is an improvement over last season when it was only Community that I watched from the beginning, and Parenthood I later caught up on.

I'd go along with his view of The Event and am not really expectng to like it. Like the mess that Lost drifted into and last year's Flash Forward showed, a lack of story and characters can quickly kill a show. The rebirth of Hawaii Five Oh and the continued renewal of many of our favourites is testament to how much we identify with characters. We like characters we can relate to and a lot of the time many of us like straightforward story telling. Different is fine but it needs a good credible story and people worth watching. If The Event can do that it'll probably be a hit, otherwise I reckon it'll slide very rapidly to extinction.

  18. Are you serious? I know you are a fan of Chuck and are looking forward to Undercovers but if NBC's schedule were to totally tank, then it would be highly unlikely that your two favorites would alone stand out from that disaster unscathed. Root for your shows to succeed but for them to get the viewers they need, the schedule for NBC has to bring some eyes to the network.

It's not about my shows standing out it's about a complete apathy for everything else NBC has to offer. Most of their other new shows sound awful and their other old shows don't appeal to me either. Therefore I could care less what happens to them.

It's great that I don't have to choose between BBT & The Event. NBC will be my new Monday night home this year and my DVR will be recording House. The Event might be better than FlashForward, which lost me after the 3rd week because they kept on saying the same thing over and over and the story went nowhere. Also ABC will be the new 4th place this year since they were notorious with the cancellation of shows last year, so people may not trust them with a serialized show.
