- Thursday’s broadcast of “The View,” featuring President Barack Obama, qualified as the series’ most-watched broadcast ever in Total Viewers (6.59 million), exceeding its previous peak delivery achieved the day after the 2008 Presidential Election (6.17 million, 11/05/08).
- Thursday’s “The View” also qualified as the series’ most-watched broadcast in 17 months among the Key Women Demos 18-34 (516,000/1.5 rating) and Women 18-49 (1.33 million/2.0 rating) – since 3/2/09.
“We were honored to have President Obama on ‘The View.’ The ratings indicate that our show continues to break new ground. ‘The View’ has proven to be an important stop for political candidates and is appointment television for our loyal audience who value our opposing views,” said Barbara Walters.
“A historic interview leads to historic ratings,” said Brian Frons, President, Daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group. “It was wonderful to have Barbara Walters back for the interview with President Barack Obama, her first interview since her heart surgery, and together all five co-hosts did what they do best, ask the questions that are on our viewers’ minds.”
President Obama’s unprecedented appearance was part of the show’s continuing “Red, White & View” campaign, which is committed to political guests and discussions. In 2008-09, the five spirited hosts of ABC’s popular talk and entertainment show left an indelible mark on the political landscape. Whether discussing the day’s political headlines, from the war in Iraq to universal healthcare and teen pregnancy, the latest musings from our nation’s capitol or political infidelities, the outspoken hosts can always be relied on for their unique opinions, quick wit and sparking colorful water cooler conversations that can only be seen, live, exclusively on “The View” (11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, ET) on the ABC Television Network. In September 2008, the show launched a successful “Red, White & View” campaign highlighting interviews and informational segments that helped promote civic responsibility during the election season. The “Red, White & View” campaign is another example of how “The View” continues to establish itself as an important player in the political process.

well, obviously it had awesome ratings lol
Hope ABC promoted their soaps during this!
These are excellent ratings!
These are awesome ratings for The View.
I really hope this will help out the soaps. I think the problem with the soaps ratings is that they just can't perform high numbers on their own anymore. I know the local news always gets The View ratings so shows like All My Children never see that boost.
I was part of those watching it. I have to say, this was very funny. Yet, Obama's political views never stop depressing me.
Most people watched to see if Liz and Joyless would made fools of themselves and did not disappoint. Joyless was humping his leg.

A scintillating contribution, as always.
Obama wasn't the first in-office president it was George Bush in 2004 on Dr.Phil when he was going for re-election It still counts he was the president trying to get votes just how Obama is trying to gain support from women.
If you read the post carefully:

“Dr. Phil McGraw, accompanied by his wife Robin, sat down with President and Laura Bush in the living room of the first couple's Crawford, Texas, ranch for Wednesday's installment of the Dr. Phil daytime TV show”. (People magazine 9/2004)
There is a difference between a pre-recorded/taped interview at home and a pre-recorded/taped interview in studio in front of an audience. Perhaps a fine difference but a difference nonetheless.
And it was inarguably about trying to gain back some of his massive loses in the women's vote, I agree.
On what time this show was broadcast? And how much percent of all viewers were watching this show?
“The View” is on from 11 am to noon Eastern time, at least in markets where they broadcast it live. There are probably some ABC stations that air it later rather than showing it live, particularly in the Pacific time zone.
Did they have any special guests on the day after the 2008 election that caused them to get such a high rating that day?
Thank you for answering me. I guess Pacific time zone is the time in states like California? I'm not from the USA, so that's why I'm asking;)
Right, California is in the Pacific time zone, which is three hours earlier than the Eastern time zone. If a station in California wanted to broadcast “The View” live, it would have to be on at 8 a.m., but I don't think they broadcast it live in the Pacific time zone anyway. For example, the ABC station in Los Angeles, California, shows “The View” on tape delay at 10 a.m. instead, and so does the ABC station in San Francisco, California.
