I love Glee and they deserve this. Don’t hate!
I wouldn't argue with these, necessarily.
I wasn't aware Glee was such a critics darling though.
ABC’s “Modern Family” was voted “Outstanding Achievement in Comedy,” and ABC’s “Lost” and AMC’s “Breaking Bad” tied as the victors in the category of “Outstanding Achievement in Drama.”
and?
these people love to hand out awards to each other. Not one show I watch.
I guess I'm not 100% sure what your point is as this is TV critics getting together and awarding what they believe to be the best achievements in TV this year.
It is different from the Emmys and the SAGs where those who actually work in the “crafts” AND are nominated, vote for the awards and ultimately receive the awards (if that makes sense).
I love Jane Lynch, but hate musicals. Cannot watch Glee. I find it anything but gleeful, unless being so makes you want to rip your face off. Just sayin.
But let me say something positive. The bird episode of Modern Family made me laugh so hard I cried.
I agree for choosing 'Glee' as Program of the Year and Outstanding New Program. Its really good.
Modern Family deserved it too.Actually MF is more funnier than Glee in terms of writing.I guess that's why it got the award.
Glad for Julianna Margulies.
Surprising. In the previous 13 years 22 male winners + 4 female for acting. Now the latter goes up 50%.
I hate Glee. I can't say that show is bad, I just don't like it. For me it's awful.
I've NEVER taken a TV or movie critic's opinion seriously. In the past, I used to read the reviews solely to find out what the show or movie was about. I make up my own mind as to whether the item in question is any good. So a critic's award means less than nothing to me. Nowadays I rarely read reviews unless I suspect the show or movie is likely to be really bad, then I check to see if the consensus is that I was right to be suspicious.
And sometimes I've very wrong about that. I avoided looking into Sanctuary for a while as I thought the premise was uninteresting. Boy, was I wrong!
With the Internet, finding out what a show is about is trivial – just watch the YouTube trailer. And I've probably heard about in advance for a year, anyway.
Lost and Breaking Bad a tie?
Maybe if you have brain damage. What an insult to Breaking Bad.
Im soo sick of Glee. Good for Modern Family though!
Just be glad it won something, because I have a feeling it will get shut out at the emmys even though IMO it deserves to win everything it's nominated for.
Glee is a very fun and upbeat show to watch, but it's becoming slightly overrated with all these awards. I think it's the new 30 Rock.
I agree that Modern Family has better writing than Glee and that's probably why it won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy. MF's style of comedy is very original and innovative (comparing it to The Office or Arrested Development is like comparing apples to oranges), unlike Glee's Desperate Housewives-esque satirical style of comedy.
I agree.
I'm already preemptively pissed off on behalf of Aaron Paul.
I think “Glee” is the new “Ugly Betty,” personally. People are excited now because it represents something genuinely different. But it won't take long for the silly, over-the-top quality of the show to wear thin. I say that as someone who enjoys the show. “Modern Family” is the new “30 Rock” — with the only difference being that more people will think “Modern Family” deserves the praise.
Interesting… haven't seen The Good Wife, but Julianna Margulies was pretty horrible in everything I've seen of her so far.
You made a really good point about the Ugly Betty comparison. UB was created in the same vein as DH and featured lots of goofy satirical humor while adding the down-to-earth roots that DH lacked. In that sense, Glee is very similar to UB.
When I said Glee is the new 30 Rock, I was referring to all the critical acclaim it gets. Glee does have 30 Rock-like flashback sequences, but it's much more similar to UB and DH.
You don't watch Glee, Modern Family, Lost, Breaking Bad, The Good Wife, or Life? What do you watch? These are some of the most acclaimed shows on television.
