I've written about this now in a few other posts, but I'm impressed enough with the feat to give it its own posts On Sunday night HBO's True Blood snared a 3.0 rating with adults 18-49, the highest-rated show all week in that age group. It may not sound that impressive compared to American Idol, a new episode of The Big Bang Theory or, you know, the Super Bowl, but when you consider that HBO is only in about 32 million homes out of the 115 million homes in the U.S. with televisions, it's impressive.
True Blood won't likely repeat at the top of the 18-49 heap for the current week. Last night's finale of The Bachelorette scored a 3.7 rating with adults 18-49.

True Blood's ratings are impressive on many levels. It got an 8 share, meaning that 8% of ALL people watching TV on Sunday at 9pm were watching True Blood. When you divide 3.96 million viewers (3.0 rating * 1.32) by 32 million homes, about 12% of all HBO subscribers were watching True Blood when it originally aired.
that last bit of math doesn't really work because there is more than 1 person per HBO home subscribing, but it still probably gets into that ballpark with DVR, On Demand, multiple viewings, etc.
The household rating was 2.9, and each rating point is about 1.15 mil, so about 10% of HBO subscribers were watching. Still impressive.
Again, 10% of HBO homes subscribing (which certainly happened) doesn't equal 10% of the people who live in those homes who for our purposes are all HBO subscribers. It is indeed still impressive regardless.
Okay guys I saw my mistake!! Regardless of the math, these are very impressive numbers!!
Porn is always popular.
And next to porn is gore – seeing Bill's ex-wife disintegrate was both disgusting and gratifying, since that's the last we'll see of her. Of course, I hate seeing hot babes disappear from shows, but since we're seeing more of the Queen, that's a trade-off I'll accept.
LOVE IT!!!
Hmm-Highest rated show of the week in the 18-49 age group–man the advertisers must just love that! Oops! Wait! HBO–no commercials!
