SHARK WEEK TAKES A BITE OUT OF SUNDAY NIGHT TELEVISION
Discovery is #1 in delivery during prime across all key demos,
More than 3.5 million tune in for annual rite of summer's first night

SHARK WEEK’s kick-off show ULTIMATE AIR JAWS, airing Sunday, August 1 at 9pm e/p, averaged 2.15 HH / 1.61 P25-54 AA% and is the #2 highest delivering SHARK WEEK telecast of all time (behind 2007’s SHARK WEEK kick-off show Ocean of Fear for HH delivery).  INTO THE SHARK BITE Sunday at 10pm averaged 1.86 HH / 1.46 P25-54 AA%, and is the 5th highest delivering Shark Week telecast of all time. Discovery Channel was the #1 cable network in delivery during prime Sunday night among P/M25-54, P/M18-49, P/M18-34 (no exclusions) and was #2 among W18-49 and W18-34.  

ULTIMATE AIR JAWS was the #1 primetime (8P-11P) ad-supported cable program for M18-49/M18-34 delivery (#2 for M25-54).  The one-hour shark special delivered more than 3.5 million people (P2+) Sunday night. INTO THE SHARK BITE was the #2 primetime (8P-11P) ad-supported cable program among M18-49/M18-34 delivery and was watched by more than 2.9 million people (P2+).

Discovery Channel’s primetime average delivery surpassed ABC, CBS and NBC among M18-49 on Sunday night, finishing second only to FOX in all of television.  Discovery out-delivered ABC among P/M25-54 and P/M18-49 and NBC among M25-54 and P/M18-49.

Online (discovery.com/sharkweek), is also experiencing SHARK WEEK success.  On Sunday, August 1, Discovery’s website had the best video day to date with more than 550,000 video streams – almost as many streams as all of SHARK WEEK 2009.  Users watched more than 200 different shark-related video clips on the site Sunday.

SHARK WEEK, celebrating its 23rd anniversary this year, is cable’s longest-running programming event.  Tonight (Tuesday, August 3), viewers can tune in to SHARK BITE BEACH at 9pm e/p and learn what happened in the summer of 2008 as fear gripped beaches along the coast of California and Mexico in the wake of multiple horrific shark attacks.  And tomorrow (Wednesday, August 4), catch late night talk show host and comedian Craig Ferguson as he takes viewers on a dive through some of the most jaw-dropping moments from past SHARK WEEK specials in SHARK BITES: ADVENTURES IN SHARK WEEK.
