Scoreboard FOX NBC ABC Uni CBS CW
Adults 18-49: Rating/Share 2.9/9 2.1/6 2.1/6 1.6/5 1.2/4 0.4/1
Adults 18-34: Rating/Share 2.6/9 1.6/6 1.6/5 1.9/6 0.8/3 0.4/1
Total Viewers (million) 6.484 7.712 6.338 4.066 7.114 1.100

It's a Gordon Ramsay world, and FOX is living in it.   Last night FOX won the battle for the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 with Hell's Kitchen being the night's top program with a 3.2 rating, bettering Wipeout's 2.9 at 8pm.  For those of you who need to mention that "but Wipeout had nearly two million more viewers!"  there, I mentioned it for you.  Those viewers don't really matter, but still.

Hell's Kitchen had its highest-rated and most-viewed telecast of this summer's cycle.

Breakthrough With Tony Robbins didn't break through, in fact it dropped 13% from its premiere, down to a 0.7 rating with adults 18-49.

At 9pm the second week of MasterChef didn't drop from its premiere, holding the 2.7 adults 18-49 rating from last week and winning the hour, edging out America's Got Talent.  For those who need to point out "but at 9pm America's Got Talent had over 3.5 million more viewers who don't really matter than MasterChef!" there, I have mentioned it.

The second season of Shaq Vs. premiered to series highs, which as much as anything probably speaks to it not really doing so great in season one.  However, especially considering things like Breakthrough With Tony Robbins,  ABC is likely quite pleased with the results.  Also, that 1.9 is better than ABC's summer scripted efforts.

With Gordon Ramsay's night finished, America's Got Talent easily won the 10pm hour.

The premiere of 18 to Life on the CW lost viewers from a repeat of Plain Jane (which outperformed last Wednesday's premiere), and even more ran away in the second half hour.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

I think ABC might have a Rules of Engagement-type thing going on with Shaq Vs. Shaq Vs. can timeshare the Tuesday 9pm slot with a new series next summer (probably 101 Ways To Leave A Game Show) and ABC could then compare the ratings of the two series to see which one is more worthy of renewal.

Nice to see America's Got Talent bounce back up despite its Breakthrough lead-in being even weaker than last week's premiere.

  2. I can't imagine ABC not being pretty happy with those Shaq vs. numbers.

  3. Larryville_Slim

Nothing much on the networks for me on Tuesdays!! Tuesday TV at my house means Warehouse 13, Covert Affairs and Memphis Beat, with a little help from the DVR.

  4. What, no White Collar!?

  5. My suggestion to FOX: Gordon Ramsey as a judge on American Idol. He's a proven talent for FOX, he's got the Brit nasty personality down pat, and people watch him. If he only had some music industry background, but what the heck – go for it!

  6. junior8907

Did the repeat of Plain Jane get more than the original airing, maybe all hope is not lost.

  7. tvmonkey

probably the best Tuesday numbers all summer for the CW?

  8. In fact it did, at least in the overnights the premiere got a 0.4 and 980,000 viewers last Weds @9pm

  9. jon55

good numbers for hells kitchen, agt and wipeout last night
how did masterchef fare against America's Got Talent at 9:30?

  10. That's so odd that a Plain Jane repeat did better then the series premier. Maybe it would do better in that time slot.

  11. ABCHasProblems

For anyone that has been watching America's Got Talent (or NBC for that matter), I have to admit that the new promos for The Event are becoming extremely annoying. It's like the opening credits for Lie To Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgRJ7-s0u7c) have been mashed together with the V promos with the white background (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MF9j5zYQTrk&feat…). These new Event promos seriously make want me to watch an episode of LTM or start catching up on V.

  12. chrisjozo

18 to life should really be on Teen Nick. One of it's stars was a mainstay on Degrassi the Next Generation and pairing it with Degrassi would have made sense.

  13. Ram510

What exactly do you mean by a Rules of Engagement-type thing?

And yes The Event promos are getting very annoying (But I don't Trust NBC anyways lol)
And yes you should catch up on V, it's a very entertaining show despite what some people say (sorry FlashForward fans, it's time to consider embracing V)

  14. ABCHasProblems

You know how CBS always introduces a new series in the fall only to be replaced by ROE in midseason? I think ABC might have something similar going on with Shaq Vs. They might premiere 101 Ways early next summer only to have Shaq Vs. replace it. After all, Shaq Vs. was a struggling self-starter last year and it may turn out to be a very solid performer with a Wipeout lead-in.

  15. CJ_Shizzle

I can agree with that, seeing how Downfall premiered with a 2.0 rating. But if Shaq VS. can hold those ratings, and not fall below its' summer scripted counterparts' ratings, I think ABC will take it.

  16. yragcom1

For some ridiculous reason, I found myself watching both “Wipeout” and “Shaq” last night. Is network TV THAT bad now? I already had the usual USA shows on my DVR, so I'll watch them later. But still, I had to ask myself, “why am I watching this”? I feel like I gave two hours of my life away for nothing…

  17. tariqq

i wonder if the CW will renew 18 to life since its already renewed in Canada?

  18. Chiefisgreat

Tuesdays are STACKED on cable. Assuming you have cable, you only have yourself to blame for sticking with the broadcast nets last night…although I have to admit I'm secretly fond of both Wipeout and Shaq Vs.

  19. Larryville_Slim

So many shows, so little time! :^)

    Which star from Degrassi?
