‘Lie to Me‘ Best Performing Summer Scripted Original

So much for the "Summer of Scripted Originals."  The results won't surprise anyone who has been following the ratings this summer, but James Hibberd has posted some of the summer rankings.

Of course all of the shows at the very top  are unscripted.  In fact, the highest ranking summer scripted show is repeats and not originals of The Big Bang Theory.

Hibberd didn't bother to include the repeats of Two and a Half Men -- they too would've trumped the best original scripted performer, Lie To Me, which performed more than 20% better than Rookie Blue.

Hibberd notes the rankings include 7 days of DVR viewing, but that's not quite true.  The numbers are actually "Most Current" (Live+7 where available, Live+SD where it isn't). So the numbers for say,  Shaq Vs. are Live+SD only and only for the premiere, since the numbers for the current week are not included in the rankings.

  1. If anything good was on, maybe people would watch.

Lie to me is one of my guilty pleasures on tv

I think it’s a great show, even when i find Rookie bliue even better.

  4. Brugdor

I love Lie to Me and I’ve even got my parents hooked on it now.

Great to see LtM and RB with decent numbers. Hopefully Flashpoint will come back too.

Well Lie to Me is a procedural and all the plots are pretty to easy to follow. Plus, I think people continued to watch because FOX already announced it was coming back for a 3rd season in the Fall. If the networks are going to continue to produced original scripted programming, I think they should stick to procedurals. Keep the serialized shows to the cable networks like USA or AMC. Networks audiences are very spotty, while people who pay for cable stay dedicated to their shows.

I’m glad for the show, but seeing how everything’s so damn low this summer, this isn’t anything to write home about. And again, had LTM not been aired during the regular season before, it wouldn’t get much better ratings than Rookie Blue (which wouldn’t warrant a renewal on Fox).

Have to remember there were a lot of decent scripted cable shows to split the summer audience too.

If you watch one USA show you are watching ads for USA shows. I never watch ABC except for General Hospital so I don’t pay too much attention to ads normally. They are certainly promoting the Chilkis (sp?) super hero family show a lot.

The basic problem of all networks, major and cable, is getting people interested in their new shows. If you don’t know it is on you won’t watch it. Too much choice is a problem.

And yet there are several summer cable shows that have done well this year. I wonder if the reason people dont watch summer scripted shows is because most of the ones on the air right now are horrible?

  10. Done well for cable, yes. But only True Blood has done better than all the scripted broadcast content. The rest of those shows that have “done well” have done worse than Lie To Me

Well I meant that they did well for cable shows, lol. But more people have access to the basic channels still, so they can’t really be compared.

LIE TO ME SHOULD BE SO MUCH MORE POPULAR THAN IT IS. What is with people and reality shows? Most of them really suck pathetically.
