For a variety of reasons no surprise at all, but a little Tuesday good cheer for Eureka fans anyway.

SYFY PICKS UP HIT SERIES Eureka FOR 5th SEASON
New York, New York – August 17, 2010 – Syfy is greenlighting its hit original dramedy Eureka for a 5th season, it was announced today by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, Syfy and Co-Head of Content for Universal Cable Productions, which produces the series.
Eureka seems like any other cozy, Pacific Northwest town, but is actually a secret community of geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research. What they’ve unwittingly created is a place where anything imaginable can happen… and does. Eureka stars Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Joe Morton, Erica Cerra, Neil Grayston, Niall Matter, James Callis and features Jordon Hinson. Co-creator Jaime Paglia and Bruce Miller are Executive Producers.
Since Eureka’s 4th season premiere on July 9, 2010, and with the most recent Live +7 data factored in, the show is averaging a 2.2 HH rating and more than 3 million total viewers per week (1,335 million Adults 18-49 and 1,531 million Adults 25-54).
In addition to great ratings, Eureka has also achieved new creative heights including: a time-altering storyline that has reset the series raising both the drama and stakes for the main characters; the addition of James Callis (Battlestar Galactica) as the new character ‘Dr. Charles Grant’; a first-ever crossover episode with Syfy’s Warehouse 13, a top-notch lineup of special guest stars including Ming-Na, Jaime Ray Newman, Ed Quinn, Wil Wheaton, Jamie Kennedy, Chris Parnell, Matt Frewer and Felicia Day; and a recently announced holiday episode slated to air in December.
“Eureka remains a steadfast performer for Syfy with its superb cast and perfect blend of drama, comedy and eye candy,” said Stern. “Given what Jaime, Bruce and their entire team have done collectively to reinvent the show this year, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for season 5.” Eureka airs Friday nights at 9:00PM ET/PT on Syfy.

I’m so happy. It’s one of my favorite shows.
That’s amazing news ,I’m a big fan of the show
but does anyone know how many episodes will the fifth season be?
I think Eureka is the perfect light-hearted science fiction show that Sci-Fi seems focused on ever since the end of BSG – though SGU isn’t exactly light-hearted, but most of the rest have that light-hearted air that makes Sci-Fi more palatable to the norms.
I love the way Eureka used Science Fiction theories to totally reset the show, to prevent story lines from getting old in a way I can actually accept.
However, how can you add the brilliance that is James Callis as permanent cast and then use him so UTTERLY poorly, it’s just a shame how god awful his character is. Is his only purpose to be a romantic foil to Carter, I mean with this reset you can also bring back the best ever romantic foil to Jack Carter (and in the previews it seems like they are going to) and who doesn’t want to see Allisons reaction when we find out he ain’t so dead no more. (And seriously, if you bring him back, do not make it a one shot)
Not for nothing, I love Eureka and think it and Haven go well together, but please oh please oh PLEASE make better use of Baltar, it’s a waste of his talents.
Great news! I love this show!
Great news! Love the show! But not surprised it would get renewed. lol.
It’s nice to see Eureka continue with good ratings and renewal, especially as it has managed up through this season to be continually fresh and to take chances and I think really deserves its success. (And I think this season has had really standout episodes – all with great acting, stories and all production values. I’m impressed that they’ve kept the quality at such a high level).

I just started watching this season and I really like it. I have to go back and watch past seasons sometime.
Well, the issue with bringing back Stark is that Ed Quinn didn’t want to be on the show anymore (amicably left, by all accounts). So unless something has changed, I highly doubt he’d come back in any permanent capacity.
I wonder when we’ll find out how many episodes season five will contain, when season five will premiere, etc.
I’ve loved this show since day 1… but this season is a waste. You can’t have an entire meaningless season. They will eventually fix reality, and everything that occurred this season, including the Warehouse 13 crossover, will be a pointless waste of time.
If you are enjoying the show as much as you say you are then HOW is it a ‘pointless waste of time’?
Fantastic, normally SyFy and ABC etc seem to loose their legs when it comes to keeping a truely unique and special show like Eureka alive.
This is a fantastic show, congrats SyFy for keeping the faith…
Cheers,
I don’t believe they will eventually fix it, because, well, they’ve already said they can’t. The bridge is closed, the machine blew up, you can’t make a new bridge, and more importantly, they’ve already changed history, you can’t change it back. In this reality / instantation of time travel, those involved don’t forget, hence if you put grant back in the past, you still have messed with the past and stil have butterfly wings.
I am curios though, just regarding the whole timeline / changes thing, now that bev is back, what happened to the artifact, is it still there, was kevin ever autistic and if not what does that mean about the artificat, and is kim still alive somewhere?

This is just great bad sad, that means something will happen in the season’s final. Jack and Alison just gotten together has a couple, and we all knows what happens when the two main characters fall in love. The show always get canceled when this happens, but there making a 4th season so that means something happens and Jack and Alison were never together.
I agree, not a surprise that it is continuing with a fifth season. It is the only SciFi show my wife will watch and we have watched it from the beginning. Our only gripe is Carter needs to get over Allison, it is a recurring plot line that refuses to end and is becomming stale to watch Carter fail with her.
Season Four….the best season by far!! Midseason Finale…just awesome! Can’t wait for more. Love this show!!

Lovely to hear that. Eureka is one of those shows that actually gets better as time goes on! The quirkiness never seem to amaze and surprise its fans. I lost a bit of interest in S3 but are now fullly onboard again on one of the best tv shows around.
I especially love this season`s timeline and are happy that there more character development for the fringe stars like the talented Niall Matter whose Zane Donovan was not very well written since S2 other than being a love interest for Jo Lupo. The reset timeline has been very good and interesting for their dynamic as many viewers never got invested in their relationship the first time round. Can`t wait for latter half of s4.
