I've already posted about Covert Affairs hitting series highs & summer highs for  White CollarMelissa & Joey on ABC Family dropped versus its premiere, but not by much.

After dropping 450,000 viewers and 0.2 ratings points with adults 18-49 from the previous week last week Warehouse 13 stabilized this week.  Not dropping is better than continuing to drop, but  being down and staying down isn't great news.  Sophomore slump?

Hawthorne has been a bit up and down.  This week down ~300,000 viewers and 0.1 adults 18-49 ratings points.

  1. Could Warehouse 13 being down be due to White Collar’s rise?

  2. perhaps, unfortunately there’s no data so all we can do is speculate. W13 was down big last week when WC was up big. This week W13 stayed down and WC stayed up.

  3. Melissa and Joey is performing well so far for ABC Family. It would probably be performing better if it had a strong lead-in. The only thing that’s concerning is how will is stack up when competition starts to return soon?

I know I watched W13 at first for the guest stars (one in particular), as the core cast doesn’t do alot for me. (in particular I find Claudia annoying). But since I don’t think those particular folks are going to be back I’m not invested enough to keep tuning in.

evidently particular is my word for the day

A sophomore slump for Warehouse 13 already? Can you have those kinds of slumps for shows that run such short seasons? I mean W13 won’t even be back in the winter like the USA shows. If it was on a broadcast season that would be a mid season slump. I think it might have been down for the same reason as Eureka, it was the crossover fans going back to their ‘own’ shows. Of course that means that if that was the case the crossover people took a look at W13 and didn’t stick around but might be able to make the same argument for Eureka?

Is Covert the #2 scripted cable this summer based on most-recent eps now?

  8. Eureka has held up better and the week after the crossover had as many viewers as it had for the crossover. W13 now has dropped from where it was before the crossover.

  9. Yes, for A18-49, with some disclaimers: this is only for the Live+SD and I averaged the ratings points (which are rounded) vs. the actual #of 18-49 viewers, which has some risks to it. But that said, on a Live+SD basis I have it just behind Burn Notice and ahead of Royal Pains through last night.

Ummm…when else would they have a sophomore slump? By definition, doesn’t that have to be the second season? ;)

    Well said, Holly. Obviously.

I say this as someone who watches Warehouse 13 and (mostly) enjoys it: the show’s ratings until now have mystified me. It is literally the most derivative show I have ever watched. It doesn’t try to be original, it doesn’t even seem to want to be original. It just seems to want to have fun in the context of ripping other shows (some better, some worse) off — which it succeeds at doing. A recipe for a decent genre-show performer, but not for wild ratings success.

I don’t think Warehouse 13 is going through a sophomore slump creatively. The cases IMO have been just as fun and quirky as season 1. I think it’s a victim of more stiffer competition, especially from USA. I think it’s doing well enough to get a season 3, but I have to wonder if SyFy will increase the order to do the split season thing like SGU and Eureka or stick with 13.

So its safe to say that Warehouse 13 will be coming back for a 3rd season?

True but the definition of seasons, especially on cable, is getting very elastic.Being Human is in it’s second season on BBCA with 12 eps. I want the old days of seasons lol. I guess W13 could be old and done by episode 24 if it makes it that long which seems strange and odd.

Wasn’t there are press release about that on this site, something about the show runner not wanting to do anymore than 13 eps per season?

  16. r0ckmypants

Hair Battle Spectacular is one of the weirdest, most ridiculous shows I’ve ever seen… and I can’t believe how well it’s doing for Oxygen. It’s got twice the number of viewers and is 3x higher in the 18-49 than Dance Your Ass Off.

  17. DonJ1973

IIRC, SyFy was actually thinking about renewing W13 for 20 episodes for season 2, but decided against it because of costs. Especially since it was airing during the heart of the down economy.

  18. Ponder68

Three episodes of W13 were scheduled for Tuesday night, but it looks like they preempted one off the W13 re-runs with a rerun of Eureka…perhaps to act as lead in for W13 and stop the ratings slide?

Good for Melissa and Joey. Hopefully it will remain stable.

Memphis Beat has third most viewers of the night. How come people aren’t talking about how good this show is and how it should be coming back next season. Why is TNT twiddling its thumbs on this. This show deserves at least 2 more seasons on the air. It would be worth it to get at least 50 or 60 episodes in the can. It’s proven it can hold and build the ratings and the show gives off great vibes!!! Keep it on TNT!!
