BRAVO'S EMMY WIN FOR "Top Chef” ENDS 'Amazing Race' STREAK AT THE 62nd ANNUAL PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARDS
First Ever Cable Network Win In Outstanding Reality Competition Program Category
NEW YORK – August 30, 2010 – Bravo's "Top Chef” took home the Emmy as it broke the "Amazing Race's” seven-year winning streak for "Outstanding Reality Competition Program” at The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy® Awards ceremony on Sunday, August 29th in Los Angeles. Bravo continues to dominate the Reality Competition Category by being the first cable network ever nominated and the only network – broadcast or cable – to have had more than one nomination per year (2007 –2009 for "Top Chef” and "Project Runway”). In this category, this is the first cable network win, "Top Chef's” fourth consecutive nomination and Bravo's overall ninth nomination in six years.
"Since the beginning, 'Top Chef,' has delivered quality, expertise and passion that has resonated with our foodie fans and critics alike,” said Lauren Zalaznick, President, NBCU Women & Lifestyle Entertainment Networks. "In this highly competitive television landscape, we're incredibly proud that Bravo was the first cable network to be nominated in this category and now the only one to win. That alone is a testament to the strength and talent of the network's quality programming that resonates with our audience."
"'Top Chef” beat out "Amazing Race,” "American Idol,” "Dancing with the Stars” and "Project Runway.”
Primetime Emmy® Awards celebrate excellence in national prime time programming, awarding top honors at the annual creative arts gala and prime time awards telecast.
The Emmy-nominated Magical Elves produced "Top Chef: Las Vegas." Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz ("Top Chef Masters," "Project Runway," "Top Design"), Liz Cook and Casey Kriley served as executive producers. Nan Strait served as co-executive producer.
Bravo is a program service of NBC Universal Cable Entertainment, a division of NBC Universal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience. At least it was not American Idol that ended TAR’s streak. I would have been happier is Survivor was nominated and won instead
Me too, particularly for season 20/HvV. TC was kind of dull in season 6; albeit, with seemingly tasty and unique recipes + a magnificent winner in Michael Voltaggio. The current season, s7, is much more enjoyable as a whole though, so I’m going to attribute the win to their love for Tiffany Derry =).
I was only half watching the reality portion, so I made my friend who was watching with a DVR double check to make sure Top Chef had actually beaten TAR. I was sure it was some other category, somehow.
I’m glad for Top Chef,I’ll be even more gladder if Survivor won.
Lol @ more “gladder” (:buzzer:). Now I keep thinking about a bladder.
I think you’d be more “gladder” if Survivor was actually nominated, but for some reason, they prefer watching washed-up celebrities dancing for absolutely no reason than a fun stategy game. Go figure!
I’m a big Survivor fan as well as TAR. However both are showing their age a bit. One of things that made Top Chef very good is how well they keep a very structured competition fresh with good challenges. (I think the current season is very weak because the challenges have been rather lame.) Survivor & TAR have not done a good job with their challenges. I think Survivor hit a series low with the stupid bowling challenge and/or the shuffle board challenge. Relying on having a Russell Hantz and a lot of hidden immunity idols each season won’t get you an Emmy.
I’m glad to see the award going to a different show just to mix it up a bit. Next year Next Food Network Star?
Good points all around. I love TC this year, because I find the cast pretty endearing–particularly Tiffany and Ed (and secretly Angelo and Kelly). But the challenges are a bit corny and perhaps forced.
S:HVV was amazing overall, but as a Russhole-detractor, I gotta agree with your astute observation: there’s still that stinky stench of “possibly rigged” lingering in regards to the HII bullshiz.
