The 2010 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night on NBC drew a 10.1 household rating / 16 share in the metered market households from 8-11pm. That compares with a  10.0 rating for the 2009 telecast on CBS (which aired 3 weeks later on 9/20/09).

Update: The still very preliminary fast affiliate overnight ratings showed a 15% decline in the adults 18-49 ratings vs. last year.

Those expressing surprise that the ratings were similar to last year’s September broadcast shouldn’t be too surprised, the 2006 August NBC telecast had higher final ratings than all subsequent years.

For a variety of reason’s the preliminary ratings are subject to revision, but it seems likely that the year to year ratings change will be small.

The ratings were also in the middle of recent years preliminary metered market results: 9/21/08, 9.5 rating (ABC); 9/2/07 10.6 rating (Fox)
